New City - Safe and Peaceful Communities

In May 2018 The Chicago Fund for Safe and Peaceful Communities has awarded AWOFINC a 2018 grant, one of 132 rapid-response grants to support activities that promote safe and peaceful conditions in 19 prioritized Chicago communities. AWOFINC's Parent Information & Resouces, Violence Prevention Consortium and Youth Leadership & Development initiatives seek to identify and establish Community-Based Participatory Partnerships with groups and organizations. The consortium will be actively engaging multiple communities.     CHICAGO (CBS) - Heavy flames and smoke were billowing out of a pallet yard on Chicago's South side Monday night. Chopper 2 flew over the scene as firefighters from the air and on the ground tried to contain the 2-alarm blaze. The fire happened at Root and Wallace in the Canaryville neighborhood.

Extra-alarm fire hits South Side pallet company

An extra-alarm fire hit a Canaryville neighborhood pallet company at 550 W. Root St. on May 7, 2018.

John Dziennik, 53, was inside his home Monday evening when the power suddenly went off and he heard sirens outside. He went outside and saw flames coming from the pallet company on the northeast corner of Root and Wallace streets.

    An extra-alarm fire hit a Canaryville neighborhood pallet company Monday night but was brought under control within an hour, according to the Chicago Fire Department. The fire at 550 W. Root St., which city business license information lists as B & S Pallet Corp., started a little after 7 p.m.
