@jaye - Are you saying there's a radical Islamic serial killer on the loose killing gay people? I'm not at all saying you're wrong, just asking for your evidence? If he/they were truly Islamic radicals, I'd imagine they'd do something similar to the Pulse nightclub incident ... not running around in the shadows like they're Jack the Ripper.

Car Crashes Into Multiple Parked cars on S Indiana

A car crashed into multiple parked cars around 1 am last night on S Indiana, between 44th & 45th. I heard the sound of the crash but it took a few minutes to realize what had happened. 2 occupants of the car were arguing loudly. Police were called and showed up in 5 minutes. If you live on this block, you might want to check your car!

Free Trees!

Hi Neighbors,
In case you weren't aware, you can get FREE trees for your street from the city or working with a non-profit called Openlands. If it’s just one or a few trees then make a request through 311. If your street has open spots for 10+ trees then apply for a grant from Openlands. More details below.
For one or just a few trees, go through the city’s 311 online system (search tree planting) or call 311:

It takes time for requests to get fulfilled. My request took a couple of years before I got a call and something happened.
When I talked to one of the guys who runs tree planting for the city he said they plant trees based on demand. If no requests are made, no trees get planted. Be specific with your requests. For example, one tree at the curb outside XXXX S Calumet. The number of trees the city plants depends on the budget for the year. If the budget doesn’t cover the full list for the city (typical), then the list rolls over to the next year.
If you have space for 10+ trees then apply for a grant from Openlands:
https://openlands.org/trees/treeplanters-grants/
They will plant on city public land. Public land is considered to be the parkways between the curb and the sidewalk in front of residential houses, CPS school property, and some vacant lots. You need to organize a group of volunteers to help with planting. For example, neighbors, school group, church group, block club, etc.
Last Fall our group of neighbors planted 40 trees on two blocks in the neighborhood. It was a nice neighborhood event and a great way to fill in empty spots along the street that were missing trees.
Make the South Side even more beautiful!
