Heavy on Protest ... Light on Action

As this weekend's anti-violence protest came and went without much of a whimper, I couldn't help but be shocked by some of the talking points and reports coming out of the event.

Among the many "demands" I saw listed: More Economic Development.

"Wait", I thought to myself, "more economic development???"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are the same South Side communities currently fighting against the Obama center, correct? These are the same South Side communities who protested the...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are the same South Side communities currently fighting against the Obama center, correct? These are the same South Side communities who protested the opening of the new Mariano's, correct? These are the same South Side communities that -- anytime anyone comes along and proposes new development -- they launch into a tirade about "gentrification", "getting pushed out", etc, etc, right?

I don't get ... are they trying to be "ironic" with these demands given most of the pushback for new development(s) comes from within these communities themselves?

Plumber Reccomendations

Hi neighbors! Our sink in our Kenwood condo has become separated from the counter top and now we have a bit of a leak under the sink as well. We are looking for a good plumber that services the area. I know I could call roto-rooter, but I always find them impersonal and very expensive. I think the leak is causing a severe buckling in our kitchen laminate floors as well, so flooring professional recommendations are also appreciated!!!

Bronzeville Dog Park Article in South Side Weekly

If you haven't seen it, the South Side Weekly did a nice write-up about efforts in Bronzeville to bring more dog parks to the South Side.

http://southsideweekly.com/barcing-up-the-right-tree/

    BARCing up the Right Tree
Dogs on the South Side shouldn't need to drive all over the city to get out more and exercise." When Benjamin Gerhold tells me this in an email, it makes for a funny image-a poodle in a coupe, perhaps-but it strikes upon an issue that has long gone unaddressed.

Chicago's Gun Control Laws - Not Enforced

Lots of Chicago and National Lib Dems have been virtue signaling over the issue of gun control after yet another terrible schools shooting, mass killing. Lots of Chicago and National Lib Dems have been virtue signaling over the issue of gun control after yet another terrible schools shooting, mass killing. Former Chicago Public School director and Secretary of Education Arnie Duncan (never went to a public school, taught in a public school, sends his children to expensive private school) has called for a national mass walkout of students until strict gun control laws are passed.

But the reality here in our Chicago is that existing gun control laws are often just not enforced.

Take the case of Daryl Williams who was caught with a stolen hand gun that he bought on the street (he admitted that) he was firing off the gun in our street, caught by the cops. But Chicago judge Stephanie Miller - champion of our county's "affordable bail" movement let Williams go free on recognizance bond (not even electric monitoring) and sure enough Williams proceeds to get another illegal hand gun and..... murder someone! This terrible, representable Chicago murder case was not covered by the mainstream media but was covered by the excellent Boys down crime blog CWBChicago

http://www.cwbchicago.com/2018/05/prosecutors-murderer-was-free-on.html

Prosecutors: Gun Offender Was Free On Recognizance Bond When He Got Another Gun And Killed A Man
When Daryl Williams stepped in front of Cook County Judge Stephanie Miller on Wednesday, it wasn't the first time the two had seen each other. Back in November, Miller-a champion of the county's "affordable bail" movement-let Williams go free on a recognizance bond after he was charged with possessing a stolen handgun on the South Side.

She and Kim Foxx think too many black and brown "thug criminals" are in jail. I guess it makes them both feel like they being picked on. BOO HOO! It's the Lawbiding citizens who are being picked on and off. In the era (60-70's) I grew up in, these punks were given 2 choices...JAIL or the ARMY ! Color was not an option.. Judges then, didn't pussyfoot around. But then too, Chicago wasn't out of control either. Old man Daley didn't put up with it PERIOD!..CPD knows there are gang issues... I remember when CPD sat down with these leaders and hashed it out. Seems every punk walking our streets has a gun..

Preckwinkle and Foxx need to wake up.... And wake up fast. CPD seems to be doing their job at catching these thugs as Preckwinkle and Foxx play their games with releasing them back onto our streets only to commit more crimes...While they both say they are tough on crime.. which is laughable....

  • Why do liberal, left, progressive types, who tout "gun safety", bemoan the cost of incarceration? For the sake of public safety, those are tax dollars well spent. Besides the emotional cost endured, what is the physical cost of funeral related expenses? I'm thinking that the personal loss of a loved one from a repeat offender would change the mindset of those who whine about the cost of putting a criminal behind bars.
