Icarus Investment Group

If anyone has done business with or has any information as a tenant in any building that has been recently acquired by this company, please give some info as to what has been your experience with them.

  • Mary Creamer Block Club leader on 51st Street

They own 3 units in our building and I heard they are trying to acquire a 4th. The tenants don't seem to be unhappy but they haven't paid their assessments in over 6 months which is causing our association to have difficulty paying bills. If you have any info on them, please share but they are not looking good so far. I've seen they own a building on 54th and Prairie near the green line too.

  • Forcible entry detainers/ file a lien on the properties. If they are getting loans to purchase the units it will be hard because banks like to make sure Associations are in good standing. I would have the president of your association contact some attorneys.

  • They own a huge apartment building on 43rd & Michigan. My coworker has a client that lives there, total slum! I drove past the building and noticed the big Icarus management sign. I would definitely contact an attorney ASAP. Condo association has the right of first refusal as well. Are the units in foreclosure?

Censorship on Everyblock - Common Sense Education/cultural reforms are needed

I am making a complaint about censorship on Everyblock. I made an intelligent post opposing the worst forms of Rap music in the Chicago Public Schools and on Grammy and other awards shows. I am making a complaint about censorship on Everyblock. I made an intelligent post opposing the worst forms of Rap music in the Chicago Public Schools and on Grammy and other awards shows. I advocating teaching our young people time tested standards of decency, promoting traditional education and positive music and culture.

Pretty much every successful adult I meet of all racial and ethnic groups agrees with these positions, and yet we are the ones who are censored, not the worst, most violent, hateful rap "Musicians".

This #*$&*# isn't even music as few rap "musicians" know how to play instruments or read music.

I'll support any Christian pastor, ex military veteran, grandmother from the South anybody that can step in and give our young people some positive direction in life - Catholic Nuns used to wash students mouths out with soap for using the vile language I hear in almost every single rap song - and this music seems to be infecting every part of society. When will it end? How long to the Bubonic plague in Europe last?

  • upen e31st and indiana av

fully agreed. I felt the same when I recently visited my son's cps hosting an art show for their kids at evening. Whatever pop/rap music it was.. it was loud not only for kindergarteners but for all parents who also came to see art which was mostly the pictures drawn or taken by their kids.

  • Meh, your comment is a bit of a mixed bag ... I grew up on Punk Rock and listened to some pretty vile lyrics as a kid and I grew up just fine. Although, I would agree that today's Hip Hop has absolutely plummeted into god awful noise vs music....

Meh, your comment is a bit of a mixed bag ... I grew up on Punk Rock and listened to some pretty vile lyrics as a kid and I grew up just fine. Although, I would agree that today's Hip Hop has absolutely plummeted into god awful noise vs music. Even Tupac (himself often raping about violence) had an underlining message of hope and betterment. He'd be disgusted that today's "artists" are only about face tattoos and posing in front of $100 dollar bills. You're never going to get rid of Hip Hop. And frankly, your comment comes across no different than the legions of white squares from the 40s/50s yammering on about how Rock N' Roll would be the downfall of civilization. However, what we CAN do is hope that today's generation rediscovers their music's roots, which were more based on conscious observations of life (urban and otherwise). Spitting rhymes and creating poetry of linguistic nuance is rather brilliant, and takes intellect. It's myopic to gloss over that fact, even if we both agree the overall message needs to discover new light.

The part time teaching hustle is a total sham. If universities were (a) more affordable and (b) didn't engage in unethical labor practices to keep their costs down and (c) didn't pay their leadership teams and executives exorbitant salaries, maybe we'd be able to rent one of these fancy $2100/mo places, because buying right now is OUT of the question (to loop it back to the threat topic). There is so much to blame here.

But things certainly have changed since I attended UIC 45 years ago. Tuition was $225 a quarter in 1975, now it's $4500 a semester. That's 20x as much. In the meantime, my salary increased by only 8x. That's a big difference. Where are they spending it?

Back to rent/ own ... there are still affordable neighborhoods, just not hip, close to downtown, or "safe".

Construction Jobs - Illegal Immigration Anarchy

Chicago is having a Construction boom.

But there are few, if any Black African American construction workers on local (Hyde Park) construction projects.

The workers seem to be a 50-50% split between White - mostly older union workers and young Hispanics. Why is this so?

Chicago Black AA public schools no longer feature "trade school" education. The handy man type of training work is now all done by "undocumented" Hispanics and when the undocumented become citizens they have ethnic connections in trade unions and it's a natural transition.

Many occupations that were once dominated by English speaking, native born and raised Black A. A. are now overwhelmingly Hispanic - jobs like cooks, bus boys, landscapers and especially nannies. Open borders advocates (the entire Illinois Congressional Delegation led by Sen. Dick Durban) always argue that the "undocumented"/Illegal aliens only do the jobs legal Americans don't want. But, if these jobs paid a higher, living wage - then native born Americans would take them.

The entire Black Congressional Caucus gets F immigration grades from NumbersUSA and go with the idea that mass immigration from Mexico and Central America is a good thing because these people will all vote Lib Democrat.

Since I lived in Southern California I noted that Hispanics have pushed out Black AA from historic places like Watts and Compton CA - and also taken over these service jobs once done by Black Americans. So far the Chicago Democrat machine has gerrymandered Aldermanic and Congressional districts to keep Black seats, but since Chicago the city has lost ~ 50% of it's Black AA population since 2000 - it's inevitable that many/most Black aldermanic and Congressional seats will turn to Hispanic.

I also go with the idea that Chicago should not be a city in anarchy where laws against illegal immigration, hard drug trafficking and human trafficking (slavery) are not enforced as are our laws against shootings and murder.

  • Juan from South Loop 16 year South Loop resident

I wouldn't say that entire Chicago Democratic machine is on board with the current immigration process. Several AA alderman have taken a slightly different approach(passive aggressive). AA alderman had to donate a ward during the last redistricting. They gave up the historical black 2nd ward that was held by a white alderman at the time. Not sure it becomes that easy during the next redistricting. It matters when your job is on the line.

The congressional districts are probably safe for the next cycle.

    I respond:

Maybe safe for the next cycle - but after that... I see Rep. .Danny Davis losing his district, no amount of gerrymandering is going to keep the Black West side Congressional seat safe as young hipsters continue to flood in and the Hispanic population continues to rapidly decrease while Chicago's Black AA population continues to dramatically decline.
