Ignore these scam artists!

I'm sure a lot of you here have had somebody knock on your door from Direct Energy or some other utility 'representative'. I'm tired of these guys knocking on my door and asking to see a copy of my utility bill. They are a scam company and a quick google search will show you that. I snapped a photo of this clowns ID so you can know NOT to speak to him when he knocks on your door. I hate to do it but I might have put up a 'No Soliciting' sign on my door since these guys seem to show up once every month or two.

  • Yay Mark Sheridan!!! I graduated here in 91’ after going all 9 years of grade school & they deserve this! Best grade school in the city but it’s always been selective enrollment but it’s more than worth trying to get your kid in! Go blue & gold🙌🏽😍

I get your point but....Most schools in this city today are selective sadly. When my daughter attended it was selective. And yes it did make it easier for the sibling ( our son) to get in. I will also agree that there should be more consideration given to local kids....

I will also agree that there should be more consideration given to local kids. We live 10 blocks away and busing was NOT an option for us. We had a carpool our kids all 9 yrs. It is a great school. Please keep trying to get your kids in. Make some noise if you have too... Might help. Just really NOT fair that the area kids can't get in.... Good Luck to you...

Pilsen Open Studios XV

http://www.chicagotribune.com/hoy/ct-pilsen-artists-open-up-their-studios-on-their-quinceanera-20171020-story.html

"Although most artists are Latino, not everyone uses the same aesthetic and not everyone makes folk art. The Latin American community is just as complex in styles and philosophies as what you are going to find in the Art Institute of Chicago."

Pilsen artists open up their studios on their 'quinceañera'
15 years ago, Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events designated October as Chicago Artists' Month. They sent a letter to the muralist Héctor Duarte to propose the idea that he open up his workshop to the public, located across the street from the National Museum of Mexican Art, and offer him some publicity in their brochure.
    http://www.chicagotribune.com
  • In the 15 years of the Open Studios, many of us that live our life in Pilsen/ Heart of Chicago area. we are not allowed to visit the art studios. People with mobility disabilities are excluded due to no access to the studios locations. Maybe that should be included in such articles. Many of the businesses on 18th Street exclude those with disabilities on a daily basis,

Diez y Ocho restaurant 'priced out', re-opens Friday for the last time
'Diez y Ocho' is the name by which Michael Hernandez calls the neighborhood where he grew up, and it's what he decided to name his burger joint located on 18th St. and Damen Ave., a promising, but short-lived venture that could not survive the increasing cost of commercial space in Pilsen, he said.

Shots fired in Bridgeport last night

Does anyone know about shots fired near St. Mary's church (32nd & Morgan) in Bridgeport last night around 12:30am? We heard them pretty clearly and called it in but no police activity or squealing tires we know of afterwards. Hopefully a false alarm!?

  • Does anyone know what relation there is (if any) to the incident at 31st and Aberdeen today? This morning, someone fired at a passing car. Holden School had a soft lockdown.

UIC students push for faculty diversity

http://www.chicagotribune.com/hoy/ct-hoy-uic-demands-latinx-representation-20170928-story.html

In 1973, a group of Mexican-Americans and Puerto Ricans protested the displacement of Mexican households by the construction of the university, and despite many arrests, continued to push for Latino inclusion on-campus. The pressure led to the founding of the LCC and the Latin American and Latino Studies Program.

40 years later, UIC students demand more Latinx representation
Students of Mexican and Latin American descent from the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) gathered today to urge for more representation at the faculty and administrative level in the same place where, more than 40 years ago, students fought for the inclusion of Latin American Studies to the UIC curriculum.

3334 S. May, MULTI - UNIT STOP WORK ORDER NOTICE FROM CITY OF CHICAGO

does anyone know why the City posted a Stop Work Order notice on the multi-unit of 3334 S. May -- any information would be helpful as it is under contract

  • Best way to find out is to call 311 or your alderman's office.

  • Usually just permit problems

  • There was work done in the basement without obtaining plans and or a permit. The work could've been done recently or in the past. If it was done by a previous owner it's up to the new owner to resolve the issue.

There are a few things to remember about some people we live with. Some of them have mental health issues. These are people who can't control themselves due to something that may or may not being happening in the brain.

There are also the people who make bad judgments. For example, politicians are supposed to do the things that their voters ask. However, we know that they are humans and may negotiate to make life better for us voters in the long run. The other part of this picture is you and I being on the receiving end of decisions that we did not make. We become stuck with the repercussions. Why do we let ourselves and our family's get stuck with politicians passing laws that we don't approve? Where is the accountability?

If everyone has to be accountable like you and me then maybe we would have a better world. Every time I make a mistake I get fined, especially for not coming to a complete stop at the stop sign or crossing into the intersection when the stoplight is yellow.

What are we doing about the people who stick us with huge taxes, make us pay a private parking meter company to use City streets that we pay for, and then give that parking money to LAZ Parking when that very same money can go to support our police & fire workers and teachers.

How are we going to make government be accountable? We are being taxed to DEATH, and the death of future generations too!
