Ignore these scam artists!

I'm sure a lot of you here have had somebody knock on your door from Direct Energy or some other utility 'representative'. I'm tired of these guys knocking on my door and asking to see a copy of my utility bill. They are a scam company and a quick google search will show you that. I snapped a photo of this clowns ID so you can know NOT to speak to him when he knocks on your door. I hate to do it but I might have put up a 'No Soliciting' sign on my door since these guys seem to show up once every month or two.

  • emj1900 bp lifer

calling 311 for what? What do you want them to do actually.. or 911 for that matter. Not an emergency that some creep is at your door pitching his energy nonsense. Don't answer the door or if you do just say NO thank you and close the door. They become aggressive, like the idiot I had at my door....I called my dog.....but calling 311 really? not ike they are gonna come chase them away for yeah....

  • Okay - I get it. Calling 311 or 911 would not be appropriate. Thank you.

Where to sell used goods locally?

I would like to get rid of some decent electronics that are used but probably still have some value. (55" TV, laptops, etc).

Anyone know of a good place around Pilsen / Bridgeport that buys and resales used goods? (aside from Craigslist, etc)

Pilsen Open Studios XV

http://www.chicagotribune.com/hoy/ct-pilsen-artists-open-up-their-studios-on-their-quinceanera-20171020-story.html

"Although most artists are Latino, not everyone uses the same aesthetic and not everyone makes folk art. The Latin American community is just as complex in styles and philosophies as what you are going to find in the Art Institute of Chicago."

Pilsen artists open up their studios on their 'quinceañera'
15 years ago, Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events designated October as Chicago Artists' Month. They sent a letter to the muralist Héctor Duarte to propose the idea that he open up his workshop to the public, located across the street from the National Museum of Mexican Art, and offer him some publicity in their brochure.

  • In the 15 years of the Open Studios, many of us that live our life in Pilsen/ Heart of Chicago area. we are not allowed to visit the art studios. People with mobility disabilities are excluded due to no access to the studios locations. Maybe that should be included in such articles. Many of the businesses on 18th Street exclude those with disabilities on a daily basis,

Shots fired in Bridgeport last night

Does anyone know about shots fired near St. Mary's church (32nd & Morgan) in Bridgeport last night around 12:30am? We heard them pretty clearly and called it in but no police activity or squealing tires we know of afterwards. Hopefully a false alarm!?

  • Does anyone know what relation there is (if any) to the incident at 31st and Aberdeen today? This morning, someone fired at a passing car. Holden School had a soft lockdown.

UIC students push for faculty diversity

http://www.chicagotribune.com/hoy/ct-hoy-uic-demands-latinx-representation-20170928-story.html

In 1973, a group of Mexican-Americans and Puerto Ricans protested the displacement of Mexican households by the construction of the university, and despite many arrests, continued to push for Latino inclusion on-campus. The pressure led to the founding of the LCC and the Latin American and Latino Studies Program.

40 years later, UIC students demand more Latinx representation
Students of Mexican and Latin American descent from the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) gathered today to urge for more representation at the faculty and administrative level in the same place where, more than 40 years ago, students fought for the inclusion of Latin American Studies to the UIC curriculum.

does anyone know why the City posted a Stop Work Order notice on the multi-unit of 3334 S. May -- any information would be helpful as it is under contract

  • Best way to find out is to call 311 or your alderman's office.

  • Usually just permit problems

  • There was work done in the basement without obtaining plans and or a permit. The work could've been done recently or in the past. If it was done by a previous owner it's up to the new owner to resolve the issue.
