What can we middle age Chicagoans do to promote some positive soulful popular music such was the norm in the 1970s with music like Motown, R&B, Soul, Chicago Blues. I even liked a lot of Disco like Donna Summers and I sadly note that today's youth music is not in any way couples' dance music. When did it become reality that American youth, including Black African American youth doesn't know how to dance? I did hear that there is a small "step dancing" community, I hope it includes some young people. When is this terrible rap music plague going to finally end? It's gone on longer than the Bubonic Plague Black Death lasted in Europe!

Chance can call himself "Lil Bo Peep" He isn't the first or last to use a STAGE NAME. That is all it is. for all I care. Not sure where you get your info from Jaye. While it is true Lionel Ritchie did a "country" album, do not forget he is from Tuskegee Alabama. Darius Rucker also is basically country now as well. No one is forcing either one of them to write country OMG. Are you serious. Ritchie is going to honored at the Kennedy Center. Many musicians write songs for other people. What's the problem with that. I do believe RItchie is going to be in Vegas doing a show for a year. The days of Barry Gordy types are gone. Anything seems to go these days. If you are basing music by the way the musicians dress. you need not look too far.... as many groups from the 70's up to today's Imagine Dragons do not wear suits and ties. Good lord. Get with the present Jaye. We had some great music in our time. My kids grew up on it and still listen to it, but those times have changes. Truth be told I am a fan of Eminem went with my kids a few years back to see him at Lollapalooza. Me bad.... I bet you didn't like QUEEN either.....Chance is just trying like we all are. If he can make a difference, let him try. As you must already have seen no one else seems to care at City Hall You have a great Thanksgiving Jaye.

Emj1900, I don't think the original poster bothers himself with facts. It would laughable if it weren't so ridiculous that the origianl poster is telling a Grammy-award winning musician how he should conduct himself in his own industry where he has already earned one of it's top accolades.

The only thing more ridiculous and offensive is his pathological desire to cling to some outmoded and somewhat racist notion of Black respectability. He probably tells every Black person he meets how he would vote for Obama for a third term if he could, but insists the problems facing the Black community would disappear if "those people" would just wear a suit and tie/stop istening to rap music/insert culturally elite trope here.

As much as he glorifies the days of Motown, you never saw too many Motown artists engaged seriously in politics. That was part of their education too. There are very few I could imagine at a local community meeting on education. People like the original poster are always romanticizing the past - a time when people like themselves were doing a lot better and people of color were doing worse.

Carpet & Upholstery - Great Job!

Yesterday in preparation for the Holidays we had our carpet cleaned by Double A Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning. He did an excellent job without the truck, hoses, water and mess that we have experienced with other Carpet Cleaners. The icing on this cake was that the carpet dried in 2 hours, is clean and fresh with all natural products and amazingly reasonable. This is a family owned business and the owner Darrell is a local resident. His # is 773-895-9424.

  • Thanks Ruby! That's great info. Will pass it on.

  • We just had ours cleaned by New Dawn Carpet Cleaning. They also took care of our delicate Persian area rug and my sofas in the man cave. They were reasonably priced and the best part of all much like your experience it dried fast. I don't have their number but their website is www.NewDawnCarpetCleaning.com They have a coupon for new customers so don't forget to click and print that to save some money :)

Protect Rental Property Assets with an LLC
Real Estate has always been considered a safe investment since the supply is finite and the demand grows with the population. Even though we have seen some swings in the real estate market over the past decade, the theory still is held true by many.

Neighbor repeatedly reporting us to City agencies... Is there any way to stop the harassment?

The older, single woman living in the house next door to us has been repeatedly reporting our house to various city agencies, complaining of rodents (rats, which live in HER yard), "trash" in our yard, building code violations. We have had our yard inspected repeatedly with no violations. Can she be reported for harassment?

I had to call out the Streets & Sans Supervisor for my neighborhood to put to bed once and for all that our fence on the alley wasn't a problem for traffic (since it was my neighbor's one and only pressing issue, apparently). As soon as he met me in the alley, he pointed to the house with the old lady in it who was causing the huff and said he remembered her from 15 years earlier when she was causing a condo development headaches and calling all the time. He gave me his direct number and said to call if I ever had an issue. They've never been back out since.

The food is good but, had I known there would be a 3.99% charge for using my debit card😱I would have left the order.
Then the male in the back, cooking, asked, “Is there a problem?” Yes. I shouldn’t have to pay for you to do business. He told me that I didn’t have to come back. 👻 He’s right..I won’t be back.😡😤

    Really?
I love living in the community because I can try many different places...Always with my trusty debit card. This is 2017, so many of us do not use cash. The cost of credit cards has become a cost of doing business as much as supplying plastic silverware and paying for lights and heat. I think I'll pass on Steve because I also do not think I should pay to be his customer...

  • It's actually illegal for them to charge a fee. You can show them Visa's TOS and threaten to report them.
