Obnoxious Loudness in Pilsen

How can people in certain parts of Pilsen tolerate Banda music and drunkeness in the middle of the night? How? The is a total lack of regard for people who have wake up early. Moreover, if you call the police, you become a target for their animosity. Does anyone know how to silence these folks without becoming a target?

  • I've been here 6 years..a transplanted South Chicagoan.. Its a shame gentrification has softened peoples ears.. There are bigger fish to fry..but keep complaining about Banda music.. The assault rifles down Cermak Road during school hours bring perspective..

More Chicago gangs arming themselves with rifles as alliances spread conflict

The day of the meeting, young men inside a white SUV and a red van traded rifle fire as they careened down Cermak Road west of Leavitt, about half a mile from the school. They crashed into other vehicles and their errant rounds hit a 67-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, wounding them.

Ruiz is a red-brick elementary school at 24th and Leavitt streets, named for an officer killed in 1988 trying to stop a school shooting. It sits two blocks south of Cermak Road in territory long claimed by Satan Disciples.

Aunts and other relatives lived near her first apartment at 45th and Wood streets. That’s the corner where the Saints trace their origins in the 1960s as a mostly Polish gang. Their territory extends out about two blocks in each direction.

For decades, the Saints were “renegades,” not aligning with the People or Folk nations that most gangs belonged to. They fought with everyone, though their main rival has been the La Raza gang on 48th Street east of Ashland.

Toward the end of the 26 days, more than 200 people gathered at 47th Street and Damen Avenue for the first of what Marina Alonso hoped would be an annual Christmas tree lighting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

A rare shoot in a neighborhood is one thing. Having a particular part of the neighborhood that is a popular industrial movie set is another. The people who live there get absolutely steamrolled...

For example, the intersection of Blue Island and 18th is one of those places. There have been multiple shows (too many to count) and over 5 movie shoots there this past year. Each time this happens, the production companies take over entire blocks in the neighborhoods (off set) for their personal parking, trailer parking, and truck parking. Then, adding insult to injury (after kicking all the residents out) they don't even use all of the space.

This would be a lot better if the Chicago Film Office actually did a service for the people of our City! They are only chartered to roll the red carpet out for outsiders and only have staff to rubber stamp applications given to them by Hollywood. (I confirmed this in multiple calls.) They do not limit shoots at particular locations, make sure the closed space is actually being used, or move the ancillary parking around from shoot-to-shoot. (So the same blocks keep getting hit for parking and catering.) When it rains and shoots are canceled, the "No Parking" zones stay up (even when the streets are empty) and the residents still get ticketed.
