Does anyone know which commissioner or department someone should contact in order to get speed bumps placed in a high traffic alleyway . Also on the subject of issues in North Lawndale and Garfield Park are there any meetings or communicable formats in which we can all meet and discuss issues and resolutions to problems; Outside of my favorite every Block website

About Discrimination!

We are presenting an exhibit- “About Discrimination".
The Liz Long gallery at Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center, 1957 S. Spaulding Ave. Chicago Illinois 60623 is displaying materials to increase awareness of discrimination and the ism's.
This is an excellent opportunity for a discussion on Discrimination. Any group that schedules an appt. to visit can ask for a facilitated discussion. We will provide this for free.
People can view the display on Saturdays between 1-4p.m. during June or email us to ask for a special showing for themselves and/or their group.
The exhibit is on display through June 30.

An update: this past fall, a number of artists started meeting about organizing an Artists Network under the umbrella of CUARC newest community art program- Artists Peace Hub. It is a way to help our neighborhood grow & develop in a positively. We are helping a business district develop around Kedzie pink line stop. This district would have an emphasis on the arts.
First we plan to develop North Lawndale Area Artists Network for artists from this area & beyond. A core group of artists from North Lawndale area plus other artists are looking at possible space for a cooperative art gallery/cafe/youth art program. We have a building in mind. Also, we begin by offering benefits & responsibilities for artists who are interested in becoming a part of the program.
One benefit for artists: The gallery that Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center has on our current site- Liz Long Gallery, will begin in July 2018 through December 2018 showing group shows of their art. This will be a way to work together, get to know each other. These shows will be for artists who are involved in this project. Unleashed dogs. What's the best course of action?

Feels like I've been seeing an uptick in the number of unleashed dogs over here K-Town. Sometimes just let out to wander the block, sometimes being "walked" without a leash and sometimes who the heck knows, but most of the time these are clearly dogs that someone owns, often wearing a collar.

I keep my dog leashed or inside our fenced yard, but he gets really worked up when there's a dog loose wandering around. I'm worried that another dog will come after him on a walk or he or the other dog will find a way in or out of our yard and get in a fight.

As I understand it, Chicago law requires all pets to be leashed when not on their own property and there's a $300 fine for not doing so. So what's the best way to handle this? It's dangerous and illegal, but more and more folks just seem unwilling to properly leash their pet? Should I just call 911 every time?

I've tried suggesting to owners that they leash their dog, but I feel like a jerk and generally the response is not positive. I've only had one owner actually listen and that was because I gave him a leash and a piece of wood to cover a hole in his fence.

One of the people injured was a 17-year-old boy who was shot in the 1800 block of North Monitor Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The most recent shooting happened on the 2300 block of West Grand around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police. A 29-year-old man was found face down outside his vehicle with gunshot wounds to the hip and ankle.

The other shootings happened in the 3000 block of West North Avenue, 2300 block of South Kostner, the 1200 block of West 97th Place, and 9800 block of South Halsted, and the 9500 block of South Jeffrey.

He was walking on the sidewalk in the 2300 block of South Kostner Avenue when someone fired at him from a dark SUV. He was stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The man was in his vehicle in the 3000 block of West North Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain. He took himself to Weiss Memorial Hospital where he was stabilized.

About 20 minutes earlier on the West Side, a 29-year-old man was found face down around 3:30 a.m. outside of his vehicle with gunshot wounds to the hip and ankle in the 2300 block of West Grand Avenue in the West Town neighborhood, police said.

On the Southeast Side, a 24-year-old man was shot in the arm about 7:45 p.m. in the 9400 block of South Jeffery Boulevard in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood.

In an earlier Longwood Manor shooting, a 38-year-old man was shot in the back about 6:45 p.m. in the 9800 block of South Halsted Street.

Another man, 20, was shot about 6 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Beach Avenue in the West Side’s Humboldt Park. He was on a sidewalk when occupants of a van fired shots, hitting him in the right leg, police said.

The 17-year-old boy was shot around 2:35 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Monitor Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
