THANKS 2 Rat Patrol!

We did our spring RAT PATROL walk on Good Friday in the 6-8 block area we focus on cleaning up. They were pleasantly surprised at how much better this area is! We had a very low RAT HOLE COUNT. It is the lowest ever. A couple seniors came out of their house and thanked RAT PATROL.

It has taken quite a few years to get rats under control. Josie Cruze has helped us for about 5 years and now we have very few rats!

it is an effort involving: 1. Baiting, 2. Getting Garbage cans. #. Replacing damaged cans. 4. having Safer clean alleys, streets, parkways, vacant lots. 5. Getting weed spray.6. getting forestry to pick up branches. 7. getting flydup0ed tires, construction debris, trees, etc removed.

We now are at the point where we need CPd to issue citations for can theft, can rummaging, littering, using COMMUNITY CONCERNS and CITY SERVICES directive to continually have Beat and Patrol cars order the city service we need as well as gang/drug issues.

Everyone said this clean up could never be done. WELL...it is done!

Yikes! Tear downs always scatter the rat population as they look for a new home.

This is actually pretty easy. It just takes setting up the steps, executing the steps, and rotely doing the same over and over and over.

This year I may only have to walk 3 times instead of 8 times. IF we can keep the stuff off the ground and alleys clean.

We were a REAL MESS with 550 active holes on half a block, once upon a time.

Post the steps you did. What happened. It is always good to SHARE steps that work.

Poor HD reception?

Found a 150 mile HD TV antenna. It works really well. Most of pixles reduced and channels are more clear.

On my block lots tell me they have problems with this. Here is the solution!

Does anybody remember ECON101 in High School?

There was a guns/butter price chart. Economic said that the more guns produced the less butter would result. Guns means military. Butter means consumer items.

Since no one is using classic economics jargon; does this mean that Trump asking for other countries to spend MORE on military is an attempt to start an ARMS RACE?

This is all crouched in other countries NOT paying their fair share. But there is no pie between nations that mandates they pay into the pie..I presume the 2% percentage based on gdp means everyone should build a military for their own country. No where is it written one country should fund all.

This one country invading other countries is not part of the equation for NATO. the US is not picking up somebody elses' share of payment. We CHARGE countries when we invade them so the $$ come back to us in many ways.

There is no transparency in $$ in and $$ out for the cost of war, invasions, etc.

This is all very unclear when one THINKS closely about what we consume in the news.

If the ultimate goal is to reduce war, reduce military spending, create PEACE....ramping up all countries in an ARMS RACE will continue to drain $$ off of what Residents in countries need. Example: Infrastructure like roads. Schools. Our own law enforcement, a healthy consumer society.

Any economists out there who can chime in? THANKS

If we take it even further and say military in Chicago is Police; Military for State is State Police; Military for County is Cook County Sheriff...,does that mean Chicago spends too much on military.

Evidence would say that 2/3rds of the city is a blighted slum and that is possible.
My block is not so bad but has 2 vacant lots and 3 abandoned buildings. However, neighboring streets have as many as HALF vacant lots. Some are 705 vacant lots and vacant housing.

What is your opinion of the Expressway shut down?

It was nice to see the Mayor, Superintendent, Marchers in solidarity.

  • @gpblight

Yes, totally agree! That's why it's an absolute joke that Rahm marched. But most people are too ignorant to understand why this was ludicrous. There are things that Rahm can do and it starts with CPS and after-school programming.

@leanord3000, I am not suggesting in any sense whatsoever that the government is an answer to all of our issues. I am for much smaller government. But what our local government can most certainly do is improve school quality in these areas.

Regarding jobs, that's great that you had the ability to move whenever you got a job but I think you are failing to understand that black youth needs jobs in their community to learn skills first, such as working in a local ice cream shop, fast food restaurant, grocery store, bussing tables, whatever. These jobs are non-existent because these communities are devoid of businesses.

And about guns, why is it that I know many people with guns who have them legally, yet they haven't committed any crime using a gun? Don't blame the gun. It's an inanimate object. A kid in NJ was recently hacked to death with a machete. It's not the weapon because anything can be a weapon, even a baseball bat or a golf club so let's get real here.

There is something profoundly wrong in these black neighborhoods and what they have in common is poverty, dependence on the government dole, no jobs, no city services, horrible schools, gangs and drugs. They are living in a horrific reality and stuck where they are. You think they wouldn't move if they could? It's not so simple.

Take a job any job. It's what I did. People around the world and here in America travel miles to find work and to go to work. Why should it be different for the teenagers of Chicagos South and west sides. Poverty isn't exclusive to Chicago. I hear excuse after excuse. Complaining about this and waiting for hand outs. Not right. Get up and do it and you will see change.

On Tuesday, June 26 Alderman Cardenas' office teamed up with Latinos Progresando and Northwestern University in Little Village for a Clean & Green of the several blocks around 21st St & Fairfield Ave. Together we helped beautify this area of Little Village while also raising awareness of Latinos Progresando's campaign to renovate and move into a vacant Chicago Public Library that sits at 2724 W Cermak Rd. Once complete this building will serve as a legal immigration services center, community center, and also provide educational and mental health services. This project is made possible in part by a $250,000 grant through the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund and support from Alderman Cardenas.

I lost my cat, Squirrel Saturday afternoon. The door was left open during a move and she got out.

She was last seen by my apartment at 18th Street and Ashland in the Pilsen neighborhood.

She is a 6 year old female domestic long hair. She is grey with some cream, tan and white markings. She has green eyes and a tipped left ear.

She was timid and is still slow to warm to strangers but has really started to come into her own. I have had her as an indoor house cat for the past 5 years in Chicago. I assume with her behavior and personality that she is likely scared and hiding somewhere right now.

I am distraught over the whole situation.

  • I used to bang canned food around my home to find my guys if they got out. Try that, and call her, maybe you'll find her. Good luck!!

  • She is probably hiding somewhere nearby. Put out her litter box. When it is quiet, go out and call to her. She could also have gotten into an open garage so check with your neighbors. I am confident she will find her way home. My friend lost her cat the same way and she came home 28 days later.

  • So sorry that you lost your cat. I think that there are several facebook and other sites where you can post your pictures and see if someone has found her. If you need help with that, I am happy to search other threads for the links.

    Hope this helps.
