GO DO GOOD blog picked again as one of the best Tribune blogs.

For the fourth time in 18 months, the Chicago Tribune has honored my writing of the GO DO GOOD blog feature ( Why Mr. Rogers Got It and Fox News Never Will!) - selecting it as one of the top 20 in over 1,000 blogs. http://www.chicagonow.com/go-do-good/2018/06/why-mr-rogers-got-it-and-fox-news-never-will/

I lost my cat, Squirrel Saturday afternoon. The door was left open during a move and she got out.

She was last seen by my apartment at 18th Street and Ashland in the Pilsen neighborhood.

She is a 6 year old female domestic long hair. She is grey with some cream, tan and white markings. She has green eyes and a tipped left ear.

She was timid and is still slow to warm to strangers but has really started to come into her own. I have had her as an indoor house cat for the past 5 years in Chicago. I assume with her behavior and personality that she is likely scared and hiding somewhere right now.

I am distraught over the whole situation.

  • I used to bang canned food around my home to find my guys if they got out. Try that, and call her, maybe you'll find her. Good luck!!

  • She is probably hiding somewhere nearby. Put out her litter box. When it is quiet, go out and call to her. She could also have gotten into an open garage so check with your neighbors. I am confident she will find her way home. My friend lost her cat the same way and she came home 28 days later.

  • So sorry that you lost your cat. I think that there are several facebook and other sites where you can post your pictures and see if someone has found her. If you need help with that, I am happy to search other threads for the links.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, meet Yes! A year after Rock Hall of Fame induction, two bands embark on Yes 50th anniversary tours

“It was a happy summer vacation to play with old friends for three months and then be paid enough to feed most of Bosnia,” Bruford said in a 1995 Union-Tribune interview.

Speaking of food, in a 2004 Union-Tribune interview, Wakeman recalled the 1973 “Topographic Oceans” tour of England. During a long, keyboard-free segment at one show, he ate an Indian dinner at his keyboards — mid-concert — while the rest of the band performed.

Yes, meet Yes! A year after Rock Hall of Fame induction, two bands embark on Yes 50th anniversary tours
Will the real Yes please stand up? Is it the Yes whose current concert trek is billed as "#YES50: Celebrating 50 Years of Yes?" That tour stops Sunday, June 24, at Pechanga Resort & Casino and includes two other Southern California dates by the pioneering English progressive-rock band.

  • Jane Addams High School reviewed by a student

Before coming to Jane Addams, I was very skeptical. I thought that Jane Addams was like every other school. After coming here, I changed my mind because it s definitely not like any other school. Coming to Jane Addams was probably the best thing I could have ever done. Being at JAHS, I have learned so much about myself. I hated English until I came to JAHS and Mrs. Winter made me start loving it! She gave me a positive attitude towards learning difficult concepts. What I enjoy about Jane Addams High School is how the staff and teachers encourage me to be responsible because no one else will cover for me. We are taught to problem-solve using our critical thinking skills. We analyze problems objectively before acting on it and deciding which approach would be best. I like Jane Addams because the rules apply to everyone. No one gets special treatment. I will apply what I ve learned at JAHS to the outside world by limiting my expectations. By this I mean not to expect everything to be handed to me and that I would get no special treatment when I am going into the world. JAHS taught me I have to work hard for anything I want. This school has made my high school life an entirely new and pleasant experience. Since coming to Jane Addams, I have gained so much knowledge and understanding of how tough of a world we live in, how to deal with authorities and the importance of punctuality regarding everything. They have given me the skills to respect authority and handle a situation in a most well mannered and professional way. I appreciate how many impressions JAHS has made on me. It has taught me how to stay patient, committed, and motivated toward my goals, behaviors, and ambition. Jane Addams High School may be tough on me, but they are training me for the greater future that is ahead.

What made me successful at JAHS are the teachers. They are always on you about your grades and always make sure you have all your work in. If you work is not turned in you start to fail that class. What I like about this school is that the teachers keep you on point. What I have learn from Jane Addams high school is that you always have to be on point with everything. When I say you have to be on point with everything, I mean that you have to be prepared for everything. When you are in JAHS building you have to look like a scholar and represent the school the right way. Giving up is not a choice at JAHS because there are no excuses. The teachers and other office staff alike encourage the students to attend school every day and be prepared for class.

I ve been to four different high schools, throughout my high school career. I never saw myself graduating high school because I never liked school and I was always looked down upon by my relatives. Being surrounded by doubt made me doubt myself. I accepted what people said about me and so I agreed with it. My brother attended JAHS, and my aunt thought I should enroll as well. This is my second year at JAHS. JAHS is like a family. I have learned that sometimes you must concede instead of arguing. My teachers have given me the confidence to succeed, while at the same time making me feel like I am part of a family. What made me successful at JAHS was just simply following the little rules they enforce and changing my attitude. Throughout the years, I started to realize that JAHS isn t really as bad as I was making it. What I like about JAHS the most is the support and motivation from the staff.

High school hasn t been easy for me as I have been in and out of schools. When I decided to transfer to Jane Addams everything changed for me. At Jane Addams, every single teacher helped me which made me happy I transferred to Jane Addams. In my opinion, if I had stayed at my other school I wouldn t be graduating. While I ve been at Jane Addams, I ve learned quite a lot, especially a lot of new vocabulary. I have also learned a lot of math and social studies which are two of my favorite subjects. I have learned how to pull out context clues to find the definition of a vocabulary word. After I graduate high school, I know all of my new knowledge is going to apply out of school because I m going to head to college and I know there s going to be some familiar work that I have done in the past. I m extremely grateful for all the teachers that helped me get to where I am today.

This school doesn t make you feel like a little kid getting held by the hand all the time. Jane Addams reminds me to be responsible and to get it together even if it s a tough day. This school reminds me to strive and continue to push myself. This school really made me feel like I was bound to be this grown person and that I should get my education so I can move onto a different responsibility. Everything I have been learning and taking from Jane Addams has been something I will always remember. I like the disciplinary standards they enforce here It gives me and my peers a taste of what the outside world will be like. At JAHS we are pushed to become professional and think about our future. I honestly feel that Jane Addams encourages me and pushes me to become a better me.

Before I came to JAHS, my head was all over the place. I wasn't focused on school; I was more focused on fitting in. I spent a lot of time thinking about dressing the best, getting all the best shoes, etc. I went to Crane Medical Prep and I was at Morton East .They were decent but I feel like it was all about popularity. I knew I could have done way better academically. JAHS showed me that. At JAHS, I can reach out for help at any time by simply coming before or after school to meet with someone. At JAHS I learned a deadline is a deadline-- no matter what. More importantly, I learned that I must have a plan. Yes, I had a plan for college, but when I transferred here, I saw how serious and important it was. I really appreciate these skills because I think they are going to be very important when I get to college. I like everything about JAHS.
