Record Row ... NOT Motor Row

As more and more development and investment continues to flood the South Loop area, I can't help but wonder if anyone will discuss Record Row -- the TRUE identity of what everyone seems to want to brand "Motor Row."

"Record Row" is the more relevant history for this area of Chicago. If the powers that be were smart, the strip along Michigan near McCormick's new 'Entertainment District' should really become a cultural corridor for Chicago, celebrating the historical Jazz and Blues contributions that line that entire strip. Nashville has Broadway Street ... New Orleans has Bourbon Street .... why on earth doesn't Chicago have something similar????

There's a great documentary on this strip if anyone is interested.

    Record Row
Record Row - Was produced by WTTW in Chicago (PBS) and aired in February 1997. I happened to tape it. Lost my tape a few months ago and then discoved that Record Row had disappeared from the earth more or less. Found one copy in a small college's library somewhere in the south but not available for loan.

I feel once we are past the negative perceptions of the area and truly embrace the great history of Bronzeville we will be rewarded in ways that are innumerable, if and when the resources are put in the promotion of what happened here. As a people we have never excluded even as we were not included. What concerns me is that this should be on the front of the consideration of the tourism bureau's investment portfolio, lets consider this area as an asset and as something to present to the World for celebration. If you can have art festivals, rib festivals and so on in the North side neighborhoods, why not have these festivals in the Southside venues.

  • The History and the greatness of Bronzeville is what we have to preserve, if we let this area become anything other than an Historical area then we have lost a great treasure.

Dog waste

Even with gentrification, many people leave their neatly bagged dog waste on the parkway. Why because there aren't garbage cans close to the open areas where many people walk their dogs.
Recently, we were around Chicago & Ogden admiring the architecture of a beautiful old Catholic church. The dogs were in the car. We drove around the corner and let them out for a breather when I had to go back to the car to get a bag to pick up our surprise. Then came the fun part, looking for a garbage can. Drove one stinky block to dispose. Yuk! Many people just go back to their condo, they're not carrying a bag of sh** back home

Forget Buffalo wings — Korean fried chicken is better

Chicken wings don't get much crunchier than the ones served at Bonchon (2163 S. China Place #1F). The Korean fried chicken chain landed in Chicago's Chinatown in mid-2017, causing a scene when long lines showed up before the doors opened. It's easy to understand the enthusiasm.

This article has 9 other Chicago locations (Show)

...to offer a version of the dish was Peking Mandarin, nearby neighbor Great Sea Restaurant (3254 W. Lawrence Ave.) was the first to introduce a unique Chicago variation: the lollipop chicken wing ($15.49...

In recent years, the openings have only come faster. If I had to pick a favorite of the bunch, I'd go with the wildly crunchy wings at Cupbop + Ramen (2439 N. Clark St.). The half chicken ($10) features genuinely juicy meat, while honey garlic sauce is nicely balanced.

But that's just the beginning. Dak (1104 W. Granville Ave.) in Edgewater serves gargantuan whole wings ($12.95 for 5), nearly the size of your...

Women who voted for a man that loathes and uses women, loves crotch grabbing, is on his 3rd wife, who has physically abused his first wife, are blind to reality. There is a long list of negatives about this simple-minded man. They voted for him anyhow. I can see men voting for him, because they have the same views as he does. They are scared of equality. Republican women don't want equality. They are followers, and/or afraid to speak up. Again, I have a list of over 200 anti-female quotes spit out by misogynist Republican males. I'm not going to waste my time posting the rest of them. The few I posted gave you enough info. I will respect Republican women when they begin to respect themselves. I'm closing the book on this conversation.

The L Stop

Each quarter the culinary students at Robert Morris University, 401 S. State Street, open a pop up restaurant with a different theme and menu. Students do everything from selecting the food choices, designing the menu, ordering supplies, cooking, serving and cleaning. This quarter, our theme is "The L Stop" with courses from different neighborhoods of Chicago. Our quarters last ten weeks, but we need the first couple weeks to set up and the last couple to evaluate and critique. Open only on Thursdays, reservations recommended. This is a fantastic experience for our culinary students!

  • This was excellent! My daughters (6 and 9 years old) went today and they also loved it! I recommend it if you can make it.

Seven Amazon Prime Packages Fall off Truck

TERRIBLE customer service - I called AMAZON - gave them all the tracking numbers - 3 days ago and the boxes and envelopes are still sitting at my house. 7 packages were found by me on the street - they must have fallen off your truck

  • Amazon delivery has a long way to go. UPS has been at it for 100 years and still has issues. But delivering packages ain't like it used to be. Depending on your location you're lucky to even see the driver. Drivers are too busy looking over their shoulders!!!!

  • I live on a cul-de-sac with only one way in and one way out....that's why in the 11 years I've lived on this street, no home has ever been robbed. Cul-de-sacs are avoided by thieves for that very reason. The packages were at the very end of the cul-de-sac -...

I live on a cul-de-sac with only one way in and one way out....that's why in the 11 years I've lived on this street, no home has ever been robbed. Cul-de-sacs are avoided by thieves for that very reason. The packages were at the very end of the cul-de-sac - which leads me to believe that a large truck tried to make a difficult sharp 3 point turn to get out - perhaps a door did come ajar and thus the packages falling on the ground and under a bush - which SYD my dog actually discovered first. Since then - we have delivered two packages for a high school art department because they used social media to contact me having seen the post.

We focused on central Chinatown, because we heard -- from first-time visitors to lifelong residents -- that when you're there, you want places within a reasonable walking distance. So, our borders: 18th Street to the north, Wentworth Avenue to the east, 24th Place to the south and the Chicago and Western Indiana Railroad tracks to the west.

Great list and every one of those places is worth trying, though I think Lao Sze Chuan is still worth going to. Chinatown is more than Chinese food, and for those who like Korean you have 3 great and very different choices:
Bonchon Chicken-insanely good Korean fried chicken
    Ahjoomah's Apron-fantastic classic Korean cuisine
Daebak Korean BBQ-Name says it all. Make reservations here. It can be a long wait.
