New Sneaker Shop Coming to Corner of State and Archer

At the corner of State and Archer (1843 S State)a brand new boutique sneaker store is opening soon. Spoke to someone setting the store up today. Looks like it could be opening up soon. Most of the store looked ready to go just have to wait for them to stock the shelves.

Succezz - at 1329 S. Michigan - has been a staple in the Sloop for just under 10 years so maybe another sneaker store will thrive.  Curious to see how they do and welcome to the neighborhood.

Back up, city's main sewer need to be clean up

There is backing up in my place for 4 weeks already. I had two plumbers proved that there is no water flooding in the city's main sewer, which means it is clogged. I have called the city and they confirmed that the city needs to rod the main sewer. But 4 weeks passed already, they haven't done anything, just keep telling me to wait. The situation is getting worse. can you imagine how do we live in a building that has very strong smell from the backing up under such hot weather? Any good advices?

  • Wow! What a horrible situation. I am sorry that you are going through this. Have you contacted your alderman’s office? I would go in person to the office with the pictures because you’ll be less likely to get the run around. Check also with neighbors to see if anyone else has had the problem. There is strength in numbers.

    Good luck!

    Chicago's next great park? Hardly
On a warm afternoon in May, a pair of geese and their gaggle of goslings waddle single file over broken pavement and shaggy patches of weeds on their journey to the edge of the Chicago River. Elsewhere, red-winged blackbirds chirp their nasally songs while yellow butterflies flutter over wildflowers peeking through piles of rubble.

WXRT - a bit of history you might never hear

SIDETRIP THEATRE (circa late 1972 (prep)/early 73-broadcast) - the very first rock program on WXRT - which was then a foreign language station the rest of the broadcast day. SIDETRIP was hosted by Don Bridges and ran from 12M to 3AM - I know - I was the board op. Others followed like John Platt, Mitch Michaels Salchow, Seth Mason etc....but somehow Don's contribution to change the WXRT landscape from foreign language to underground rock - always gets left untold. Arnie Granat and Jerry Michelson of JAM PRODUCTIONS were also instrumental because initially they were the very first sponsors.

  • I think I heard Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express on this show. Unfortunately the “Mavericks” of back then have morphed into only a couple of hours on Monday night worth of listening on Xrt.
    Thanks for the post.
