Where I come from, if you graduate high school you are seen as someone special. Nobody in my life graduated high school. Not even my mom. Where I come from, teen girls are having kids and not finishing high school. I personally don t want to go down that road. That s why I came to Jane Addams High School. It has set me on my route to find my purpose in life. Jane Addams teaches you that nothing is given to you. Everything requires hard work. JAHS helps you prepare for things coming your way. At Jane Addams it's totally different. If you don t work hard then you don't pass. Which means you won't graduate. At JAHS they don t play around. In order to be successful at JAHS, you have to separate yourself from all the drama that some students bring and strive for greatness. I can finally say that I m getting good grades, coming to school every day, passing each class, and working hard thanks to Jane Addams.

WXRT - a bit of history you might never hear

SIDETRIP THEATRE (circa late 1972 (prep)/early 73-broadcast) - the very first rock program on WXRT - which was then a foreign language station the rest of the broadcast day. SIDETRIP was hosted by Don Bridges and ran from 12M to 3AM - I know - I was the board op. Others followed like John Platt, Mitch Michaels Salchow, Seth Mason etc....but somehow Don's contribution to change the WXRT landscape from foreign language to underground rock - always gets left untold. Arnie Granat and Jerry Michelson of JAM PRODUCTIONS were also instrumental because initially they were the very first sponsors.

  • I think I heard Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express on this show. Unfortunately the “Mavericks” of back then have morphed into only a couple of hours on Monday night worth of listening on Xrt.
    Thanks for the post.
    Cheers

At Jane Addams, they don't pressure you to compete against each other to see who is the smartest. Instead, teachers and staff help every student to be successful and achieve their own personal best. I especially love my classes with Mr.Avila and Ms.Bustamante because they help me further my math skills and always have fun ways to help students learn more. Jane Addams is a very good school. It gives students a decent education. I believe this school is beneficial for someone who needs a little more attention in class and that the amount of students allows for one-on-one attention with teachers. Also the school staff always looks out for their students. From Ms. Hernandez always helping students stay focused on graduation to Ms. Comparini and Ms. Juarez always planning something good for the all the students. When I look back at my high school experience at Jane Addams I will remember about the awesome stuff we did, the friends I have made and of course how the staff are very nice and helpful.

I started at Rudy Lozano Leadership Academy; I loved it there but the school was bad, the principal showed no interest in the students graduating, and the way the teachers taught wasn't helpful at all. I learned nothing the whole time I was there although the school was fun. My grandmother had enough and transferred me to Jane Addams High School where the staff is very helpful not only to me but to all the students that attend it. Jane Addams really makes sure that every student who walks in actually learns. They don t play around with the rules or permit slacking; once they see someone s grades getting bad, they are quick to get on you. The school is strict with their rules but if they weren't, so many students wouldn't be as successful as they are now. Like me! I learned a lot more at JAHS in one year than I did in my previous high school years. I learned things that I thought I would never learn, things I struggled with and stressed about. Both my grandma and I wish we knew about Jane Addams long ago. They have the best staff. They make sure you are on the right path to success. It's a great school and I would highly recommend this school to anyone, even those who never thought they could finish high school or think school is not for them will find that JAHS will prove them wrong.

Chicago chefs, restaurants lose out at James Beard Foundation Awards

There were high hopes for Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz of Boka Restaurant Group (latest restaurants Somerset and Bellemore, their 14th and 15th) for Best Restaurateur, but that didn't work out either, nor did their flagship, Boka, win for Outstanding Service.

Plenty of blame shared in Cubs' 14-inning loss to Cardinals

Baez now has the distinction of hitting home runs in the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th innings in his career. His 14th inning homer occurred moments after he needed to stretch his back. Baez said his back cracks frequently “any time,” from batting practice to during games.

Plenty of blame shared in Cubs' 14-inning loss to Cardinals
Right fielder Jason Heyward accepted blame early Monday morning for not making a catch in the sixth inning, which led to a Cardinals triple. Manager Joe Maddon continues to be baffled by the lack of solid contact by his underachieving lineup. And for the second consecutive game, reliever Luke Farrell gave up a walk-off home run.

I was pleased to hear that my blog, "Go Do Good," has for the third time in the last 12 months been recognized as one of the top 20 (in a specific month) by the Chicago Tribune. Let me share you with you another blog (one of the 20 recognized also for outstanding composition) that might be of help to someone you know in PAIN seeking an alternative method other than using opioids like NARCO. The blog is by Chicagoan Judy Marcus. Having helped a senior relative secure a medical marijuana card, I'm familiar with the process but Judy's blog spells it all out plus provides an opportunity to learn more. Please share with those who might want to consider an alternate to opiod Rx. http://www.chicagonow.com/opinionated-woman/2018/04/everything-you-need-to-know-to-buy-medical-marijuana-legally-in-illinois/

Everything you need to know to buy medical marijuana legally in Illinois
I've experienced debilitating back pain off and on for over a decade. When the pain gets bad enough, I alternate between taking Aleve and Norco, an opioid which was prescribed for me by an orthopedic surgeon. Norco makes me feel like I'm floating on a lovely white cloud.

I transferred to Jane Addams and I liked it right away because they knew all I wanted to do was graduate on time. They keep you busy and they help you to become successful step by step. The rules are stricter and that has helped me focus on my work instead of wasting time. At JAHS it is just easier to follow the rules than break them. I tend to take the easy way out instead of dealing with challenges. Now that I m at Jane Addams I am learning to go through the obstacles that I need to go through, and taking the easy way out isn t always going to be the best option for me. JAHS is a small school, there is less drama and everyone is nice and friendly to me. Throughout all the high schools I ve been to I always had a problem in each school. But now that I m at Jane Addams high school I don t have any problems and that s what makes JAHS so different from the other high schools and so I m really glad I came to Jane Addams high school.

JAHS has small classes, which really helps the students because they are able to get the help they need. They will not stop checking up on you until you fully understand what you are doing and learning. The teachers and staff are friendly and always there to help the students. They are easy to talk to, and you do not have to feel uncomfortable because they make you feel welcome in their classes and in the school.

I wasn't successful at my last school was because I was too focused on my friends, occasionally ditching class, and I was hanging with the wrong crowd. But at Jane Addams I now have good grades and good teachers to help me out with the work I don't understand. I love it. JAHS is the best. At JAHS you are not alone. At JAHS you will have someone by your side through it all to help you out with anything. This school will push you through your hard struggles and never let you down. It is like having a second mother or home-- that is literally the feeling I get when I walk in the school. Thanks to Jane Addams, I got my life together and straight. The thing I like most about Jane Addams is the teachers and the staff; they are just amazing people. I am glad that I ended up attending Jane Addams. Attending this school is the best decision I have made. There is a quote that states that your life doesn't start until you leave high school . But I feel that my life started when I enrolled at Jane Addams.

Since starting at Jane Addams, I attend school every day and I try to act appropriately in every class; getting my work done, and focusing on my high school diploma. The change wasn t instant and I have faced some obstacles when it came to getting used to this school. But the challenge to be more responsible has had a very positive effect on me. I am now used to going to school every day. Every day I look forward to all the new learning experiences at Jane Addams. I learn something new almost each day. Jane Addams has inspired me to be a better person. The new me understands the importance of my education. Jane Addams taught me things that I would have never imagined I would know. This school is better than any other school out there. I would recommend this school to everyone, mainly because the learning environment is amazing.

What I really like about Jane Addams High School is the diversity and strictness. There are different types of people at this school. In my old school races clicked together. But not at JAHS. Here I have learned things from Hispanic students too. I have enjoyed being around new people and personalities, and not just my own race. I also like the strictness in this school. Without rules and discipline the school would be chaotic and the students would be out of order. In my other schools it was often chaotic. I feel very grateful and lucky to attend this school. I don t think I would be as successful and graduating on time if I didn't come to Jane Addams.
