As city officials consider whether and how to let dockless bike-share operators set up shop Chicago, residents are already getting a chance to experience this new technology thanks to the new mobility justice group Equiticity's efforts to set up "bike libraries" on the South and West sides.

Thinking about Moving to 60616

Hi friends...we are thinking about moving from over the river to south of the river....seems like a great - upcoming area. A new Marriott Marquis just went up, a Hilton is in process - and I hope that a grocery, walgreens, etc. are on their way.

Any hints or pointers those of you who live in the area can offer. We don't have a car....so, public transit, walking are our primary modes of getting around....

  • Judy Happy Chicago Resident!

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses....60616 here we come!

  • Hi Judy, my wife and I live in 60605 and work in 60616 often. We would be happy to help you find the right place to live. Please shoot me an email at marcus@marlenproperties.com so that we can help you accomplish your goal :)

  • Old St. Marys School reviewed by a parent

I have been part of the OSM community for 6 years. It has been an amazing experience for both of my children. Compared to surrounding public and Catholic schools, the curriculum is very challenging. As a parent, I am always willing to help out and the teachers are always very receptive and appreciative to my feedback. I cannot stress enough the amount of attention I feel my children receive in this environment. It is what all parents want...a place where their children are taught to appreciate what they have been given, what they receive, and how they can pay it forward.

Racial Wafts

There are no less than 8 mentions of an attack by 4 black youth on 1 white man on south Michigan Monday night.
Yes, a problem exists. Always has.
But I don't recall Lequan McDonald getting this much press when he was murdered (prior to video release).
Every single news outlet posted their take, and the underlying theme in most is "Oh, no. Not in my playground. Call the National Guard." Please.

Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Old St. Marys School reviewed

I wish I had never attended this school. My time at Old Saint Mary's was one I would never want other students to experience. Firstly, the education was, to put simply, lousy. In transitioning to high school, I realized my peers were bounds ahead of me in the curriculum which has been ultimately frustrating. Most importantly, the facet of this school I want to warn other parents of is the environment in which students learn and the religious and social aspect of this school. The teachers are atrocious. The main bullying problem at this school is the teachers. The environment I was learning in was not welcoming nor did it encourage me to grow as a unique individual. Teachers would say statements that were appaling but fellow classmates were too anxious to go to administration about it because administration were also a cause for anxiety. One teacher in particular, took it upon herself to tell me "I should be ashamed for showing my face in public". This is one of the many incidents I'll never omit from my memories at this school. In addition to teachers, I was, what I would describe as bullied, by a classmate for close to 8 years, but it was never brought to attention and was quietly dismissed. If you want your child to grow as a faithful individual interested in the Catholic faith I would also reconsider choosing this school. Religion felt forced and very polarizing, not welcoming at all. An example is my classmates and I did not have the choice to get confirmed or not. I would not recommend this school.
