Sonido Gallo Negro transform mambo, cumbia, and more with retro kitsch and postmodern flair

Sun 5/27, 9 PM, Thalia Hall, 1807 S. Allport, $15-$43

Sonido Gallo Negro transform mambo, cumbia, and more with retro kitsch and postmodern flair
On its third album, Mambo Cósmico (Glitterbeat), Mexico City juggernaut Sonido Gallo Negro expands well beyond its cumbia roots and further extends its psychedelic treatment of vintage Latin American dance forms. The group balances kitsch with earnest adoration, injecting twangy surf-guitar licks and wheezing Farfisa organ riffs into galloping polyrhythms.

In the past 2 weeks...bad things have happened on Walnut

1. Anybody know WHY a car ran over someone, crashed a chain link fence, destroyed a wooden front porch?

2. Anybody know WHY someone was shot?

3. Anybody know WHY someone was shot and injured today?

4. anybody know WHY a car was burned in the middle of the block?

Anyone know WHY CPD is failing the residents living on this block? Can u speculate? It defies logic. There are cameras 7114, 194, 7113 nearby. The highly touted strategic decision camera room is in the 11th District just steps from the Commanders' Office. Aerial satellite views show the entire route of start and end where bad guys go. Still CPD makes no arrests most of the time.

Do we have an 17% murder solve rate meaning 83% failure rate? Do we have a less than 30% crime solving meaning 70% failure rate. Those kinds of data mean MANY should be cut loose and sharper tacks hired. Maybe US military peacekeepers who are accustomed to working in bad areas like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria could do a better job than what we have now. They would not be AFRAID which is the most common excuse we get.

Can u speculate as to WHY our police are not able to SOLVE crime issues here in EGP? Plz chatter here. WE NEED HELP solving this chronic problem frought with red tape, institutional barriers (like talking to a brick wall)...

There are better, faster, cheaper ways to problem solve than what we got. Can u contribute to the conversation here? THANKS

Guess we made the news this am. Firey crash was a result of shootings on Walnut. Source below

Ring doorbell gives better crime alert that the Commander at 11. His typical response as is the response of his people is " this is an ongoing investigation and we can;t release any information."

We deserve better information than that from the Commander. maybe we should go directly to the Police department responsible for press releases.

Are u a filmmaker? Want to earn $400. My neighbor is trying to get footage.

We have not been able to clean up the Kedzie/Lake area in decades. A neighbor is taking a bold step by asking someone to make a video. The video will be used to send to government agencies including the Mayor and Police and ask that they ENFORCE LAWS.

Are you a filmmaker? Are you interested in helping a neighborhood recover from blight? This might just be up your alley.
