We did our spring RAT PATROL walk on Good Friday in the 6-8 block area we focus on cleaning up. They were pleasantly surprised at how much better this area is! We had a very low RAT HOLE COUNT. It is the lowest ever. A couple seniors came out of their house and thanked RAT PATROL.

It has taken quite a few years to get rats under control. Josie Cruze has helped us for about 5 years and now we have very few rats!
it is an effort involving: 1. Baiting, 2. Getting Garbage cans. #. Replacing damaged cans. 4. having Safer clean alleys, streets, parkways, vacant lots. 5. Getting weed spray.6. getting forestry to pick up branches. 7. getting flydup0ed tires, construction debris, trees, etc removed.
We now are at the point where we need CPd to issue citations for can theft, can rummaging, littering, using COMMUNITY CONCERNS and CITY SERVICES directive to continually have Beat and Patrol cars order the city service we need as well as gang/drug issues.
Everyone said this clean up could never be done. WELL...it is done!

THANK U Inspector General for exposing bad practices at the Police Department. Reform has started but because of anti reformers there is a HUGE struggle within the department itself.
Please find a way for WHISTLEBLOWERS to help you.
We all can help the IG keep us safer by holding a department ACCOUNTABLE as 5 regulatory agency reports say they need.

Our Superintendent is doing more than any other in this effort. We need to support him in ways that are meaningful. He gets reports. Reports may not be true. It is up to us to tell him the truth. It is our new civic duty in a place like chicago.

The sound of gunshot will dispatch police who have the special celphomes. Technology is good. Lets see if if this strategy works. POD cameras were/are not widly used as a tool.

We had semi automatic fire last week end. We did NOT get police response in seconds.
Sometimes shots are not counted at all.

The commissioner did not die. Robert Meyers in charge of lights died. He was a remarkable civil servant and the job pressure may have killed him. Many who work extremely hard can work themselves to death. People with his kind of dedication are the real heroes on Chicago government. He was humble and even tempered. He would bristtle if I told, him stories like yours, and deny defects in the system. He was loyal to the union and his people.
Foia service requests for alley lights using the range of addresses on your block. See what the real status of where your service requests went. If u see that requests were marked"completed" and they were not; send to the commissiomer Rebekah Scheinfeld and IG Josepj Ferguson.
The object is to hold workers responsible when they falsify work orders. Falsifying work orders means turning on a time sheet saying you did work when in fact you did not. People who have been playing this game for decades have gotten away with their cheating and fraud because WE do not report them to the proper authorities.
You know the best way to get city service is to ask the mayor and commissiomer. Why didn't u do this?

We are trying to get the 11th District to follow (3) Directives given to me by Gen Csl of CPD. Riding for 6 months with an Area North CAPS co coordinator the (3) Directives were not followedto the letter.
We requested Organized Crime fill in forms and got better results. They are now too busy to do it.
We will now have clusters of people fill in 21-235 forms and submit them directly to the Superintendent, the responding department, and Dept of Information Technology.
We expect having heads of Departments track orders that can be foia'd will help improve city service requests.
There is some kind of conventional wisdom that needs to change. We PAY civil servants who are on our streets, sidewalks, etc hour by hour. YET instead of them ordering service we need or supervisors or Aldermen ordering what we need THE RESPONSIBILITY IS SHIFTED TO US.
MANAGEMENT needs to hold their staff ACCOUNTABLE. CAPs is Directed to turn in service requests and does not in any meaningful way in ghettos. Instead city employees push their responsibility on to citizens. Citizens give up when they call time and time again and do not get service. The IG needs to follow the order trails and punish slackers.
It is great you are able to get city service! We are getting pretty good service in a 6-8 block test area but it is a daily email paper trail.

Lets see if things get better. Jonathan seems to be sincere. Can he get better results? Technology used effectively can bring wusmtum leaps,in,oroductivity. GOOD LUCK we need a guy like u desperately.
Today CPD got 10Mil for more sdsc rooms. THANKS to the billionaire who donated.
The problem is, in the camera room people at 11 do not get police service even when they call 911. What is that about?
News does not match reality on the street. Keeping people honest is difficult indeed!

Oh, forgot to say Do not use the app. It has a 30-40% error rate in Google addressing. It is HORRIBLE and will result in union people coming out to a wrong address.
CAPs has a form 21-235. they are supposed to use it to Register and Monitor
1. Community Concerns 2. City services.
If it doesn't work at your Beat meeting; fill out the form, send it to the Superintendent and ask he get it done.

Can't say, at this point, that I have favorite topics. This is a learning experience for me, and so I will have to delve further into it. I think maybe I would like to work on keeping crime low in my area.
Will keep plowing through the material.

gpblight: Great information. We are in the 1500 West blocks of Van Buren, Jackson, Adams and Monroe. We are on Adams which is part of the Jackson Blvd Historic District. Lots of old row-houses with Salvation Army's vacant facility on Monroe, vacant Church of the Epiphany and Chase House on Ashland and a new industrial tear-down at Adams and Laflin. Lots of reasons for the rat population to grow.
I will study your details over the weekend, put together a plan and enlist the help of our wonderful neighbors and the new developers of the vacant buildings who are probably dying to figure out ways to be a good neighbor..
Thank you so much.
Yikes! Tear downs always scatter the rat population as they look for a new home.
This is actually pretty easy. It just takes setting up the steps, executing the steps, and rotely doing the same over and over and over.

This year I may only have to walk 3 times instead of 8 times. IF we can keep the stuff off the ground and alleys clean.
We were a REAL MESS with 550 active holes on half a block, once upon a time.
Post the steps you did. What happened. It is always good to SHARE steps that work.
