Stop your whining.

I feel happy and proud when i see filming in the hood. It can be a slight temporary inconvenience. Shameless is a fabulous show that shines a light on a different way of life.

Right on! It creates way more jobs than just the overpaid actors - I have a good friend whose kids are both working behind the scenes on this show.

  • Pilsen/Heart of Chicago area have been part of movie & tv productions for decades. A few people that recently moved into area whine about many things that are not the real issues and concerns that actually effect our lives. The arts in general have thrived over the last few decades in our community, they add a great benefit to our community, and lives.

A rare shoot in a neighborhood is one thing. Having a particular part of the neighborhood that is a popular industrial movie set is another. The people who live there get absolutely steamrolled...

For example, the intersection of Blue Island and 18th is one of those places. There have been multiple shows (too many to count) and over 5 movie shoots there this past year. Each time this happens, the production companies take over entire blocks in the neighborhoods (off set) for their personal parking, trailer parking, and truck parking. Then, adding insult to injury (after kicking all the residents out) they don't even use all of the space.

This would be a lot better if the Chicago Film Office actually did a service for the people of our City! They are only chartered to roll the red carpet out for outsiders and only have staff to rubber stamp applications given to them by Hollywood. (I confirmed this in multiple calls.) They do not limit shoots at particular locations, make sure the closed space is actually being used, or move the ancillary parking around from shoot-to-shoot. (So the same blocks keep getting hit for parking and catering.) When it rains and shoots are canceled, the "No Parking" zones stay up (even when the streets are empty) and the residents still get ticketed.

Pilsen is NOT a Movie Set

Is anyone else ticked off by the constant shooting of TV shows in our area? Those involved with the productions (The Chi, Empire, Chicago PDFireMedJustice, ad infinitum) show little respect for the folks whose lives they constantly interrupt. In Pilsen, seldomly does a week go by when The Chi isn't hogging blocks upon blocks of commercial parking space. Do they feed the most expensive meters in America? Those involved with the productions (The Chi, Empire, Chicago PDFireMedJustice, ad infinitum) show little respect for the folks whose lives they constantly interrupt. In Pilsen, seldomly does a week go by when The Chi isn't hogging blocks upon blocks of commercial parking space. Do they feed the most expensive meters in America? All one has to do is to try walking past their cables, equipment, and indifferent personnel to feel their disdain for residents.
We don't want you here.
I don't want you in Pilsen.
Cinespace is but a mile away. Go there.

To digress a bit, what's with the resurgence of gangs and their ilk in Pilsen? Every other wall, building, sidewalk, or trash can is tagged with their graffiti. Where is asswipeman Danny Solis? There must be a lull in counting ill gotten gains to see to some of these neighborhood concerns, no?
When is election day? I've got to wake up my dead relatives and drag them to the polls.

And Can the Soda Tax!

That is all for now. Thanks.

Where to sell used goods locally?

I would like to get rid of some decent electronics that are used but probably still have some value. (55" TV, laptops, etc).

Anyone know of a good place around Pilsen / Bridgeport that buys and resales used goods? (aside from Craigslist, etc)

Lights Out

Most of the street lights on Paulina St. between 18th St. and Cermak Rd. are out. Anyone know why?
The area around Cooper School is especially dark. I've seen groups of young girls and elderly women walking cautiously in the area, while groups of young men linger about.
There is some construction going on with the roads (sewers) but it can't be impossible to have some temporary lights for safety.

If anything breaks in the City, a 3-1-1 request will be routed directly to the City agency responsible for fixing the problem. You can even request text messages for updates. Just about every agency is responsive. (... except for Streets & Sanitation - good luck with them, if you ever need them...) Fortunately, there is a separate agency for street lighting.

This is the direct link to the form for Street Lights out: https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/cdot/provdrs/traffic_signals_andstreetlights/svcs/street_light_1_out.html

For any other future request, you can go to this site: https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/311.html or dial 3-1-1 from any phone.

fireworks or semi automatics?

I am at the 2200 block of 21st place. In the middle of the night there was a whole string of popping sounds in rapid succession. Did anyone hear?
It was difficult to tell if it was fireworks or semi automatic weapons.

  • Instead of training myself watching youtube videos on different gun sounds, I have decided to move out of the neighborhood.

  • I have been around Pilsen since the late nineties and have witnessed dozens of shootings, including seeing people die on the sidewalk. But I am not willing to deal with this anymore
