WXRT - a bit of history you might never hear

SIDETRIP THEATRE (circa late 1972 (prep)/early 73-broadcast) - the very first rock program on WXRT - which was then a foreign language station the rest of the broadcast day. SIDETRIP was hosted by Don Bridges and ran from 12M to 3AM - I know - I was the board op. Others followed like John Platt, Mitch Michaels Salchow, Seth Mason etc....but somehow Don's contribution to change the WXRT landscape from foreign language to underground rock - always gets left untold. Arnie Granat and Jerry Michelson of JAM PRODUCTIONS were also instrumental because initially they were the very first sponsors.

  • I think I heard Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express on this show. Unfortunately the “Mavericks” of back then have morphed into only a couple of hours on Monday night worth of listening on Xrt.
    Thanks for the post.
    Cheers

Both the NBA and NHL playoffs are bearing down on their championship finals, as semifinal play begins within the next week for both leagues. Sadly, neither the Bulls nor the Blackhawks sniffed the postseason this year, but we know that doesn't necessarily preclude people from watching.
