1 dead, 4 wounded in South Side shootings Thursday

Another man was shot shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood in the 12500 block of South Wentworth Avenue.

The fatal shooting happened about 4:20 p.m. in the Gresham neighborhood in the 1200 block of West 81st Street.

The latest attack happened shortly after 5:15 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood in the 5700 block of South Justine Street.

About 4:25 p.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the left bicep in the West Englewood neighborhood. That shooting happened in the 5700 block of South Paulina Street, police said.

About 1:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the left side of his chest and arm in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. That shooting happened in the 8900 block of South Parnell Avenue. The victim took himself to the Little Company of Mary Hospital. Police said he was being uncooperative.

    Two men were wounded Thursday afternoon in separate shootings on the South Side, Chicago police said. The latest attack happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood in the 12500 block of South Wentworth Avenue. A 43-year-old man was shot in the left arm and back, and took himself to Roseland Community Hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Street lights Out

Is there a message being sent to the general public when street lights are intentionally disabled? I already have an SR# from 311, but I wonder about the motive for disabling street lights that are working fine.

  • It seems as though the street lights in Maple Park have been off more lately than they have been on and it is very dark. We have a pretty good neighborhood however I am always concerned that visitors from elsewhere might find our dark, unlit streets very appealing for the wrong reasons. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you find out that it is intentional?

  • Also, thank you Nirrehs for making our community aware of this-I am going to call 311 the next time the lights are out too. What is an SR#??? A report number they give you when you call?
