Family wants answers after missing 18-year-old from Mount Greenwood found dead

McNicholas was last seen leaving her home near 111th Street and Central Park in Mount Greenwood around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Karalynn McNicholas was found outside a home on the 6000 block of South Maplewood Avenue, in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood Friday morning.

Around 7 a.m. Friday, a resident in the 6100 block of South Maplewood called 911 after finding a woman's body in their backyard.

Detectives told her family it was spotted at noon Friday five hours after the body was discovered at 39th Street and Michigan Avenue heading northbound.

Officials: Missing persons alert issued 12 hours after woman’s body found

The cause and manner of death was not immediately known, as a Saturday autopsy for McNicholas, of the 3600 block of West 111th Street in the city’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood, was pending further studies, the office said.

The missing alert said McNicholas drove a silver 2014 Kia Sorento with plates of AC54906 and she’d last been seen about 8:30 p.m. Thursday leaving the area of 111th Street and Central Park Avenue.
