2 dead, 4 wounded in city shootings

In another Far South Side shooting, a 26-year-old man was standing in a yard in the 9900 block of South Wentworth Avenue in the Fernwood neighborhood around 7:25 p.m. when someone in a dark SUV began firing shots, police said.

A 24-year-old man was shot twice in the chest and twice in the arm around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday when someone in a four-door dark vehicle fired shots at him in the 1700 block of West 85th Street in the South Side’s Gresham neighborhood, police said.

Police were responding to a report of a burglary in the 5700 block of South California. Upon arrival, a witness said a male was trying to break into a residence and ran out into the back yard, police said.

Early Wednesday morning, a 23-year-old man was shot in the mouth around 2:20 a.m. in the 4800 block of West Hubbard Street in the West Side’s South Austin neighborhood, police said. He was not cooperating with investigators.

A man was shot in the groin around 8:10 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Claremont Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

3 shot in less than an hour in Chicago

Red Line Temporarily Suspended Due To Injured Employee

According to the Chicago Fire Department, a 42-year-old man fell on the Red Line tracks around 5:30 p.m. at 9802 S. State Street. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

4 Dead, at Least 17 Wounded in Gun Violence Sunday

Two people, including a 12-year-old boy, were shot in the 9900 block of South Perry at noon. The boy was taken to Roseland with a gunshot wound to his chest, and a 40-year-old man was shot in the knee and was in stable condition at the same hospital.

The city's most recent fatal shooting occurred in the 5400 block of South Winchester at approximately 5:07 p.m., police said. 

A pair of fatal shootings occurred within five minutes of one another in different parts of the city. At 1:10 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Eberhart, a total of six people were shot while they were at an outdoor gathering.

About two hours later in the 800 block of West 59th Street, a 24-year-old man was shot in the chest, stomach, back, and arms. A vehicle, possibly a green Jaguar, was seen fleeing the scene after the shooting. The man was later pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Hospital.

At approximately 1:05 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Kildare, a 32-year-old man was walking when a person got out of a black vehicle and fired shots at him, striking him twice in the abdomen and once in the shoulder. The victim was listed in critical condition at West Suburban.

A 34-year-old woman was shot while meditating in a dispute between two people in the 1300 block of South Loomis at approximately 3:15 a.m. One of the people involved grabbed a gun and shot the woman in the face and stomach. She was taken to UIC Hospital in stable condition.

In the 7800 block of South Ashland at approximately 6:42 a.m., three men were shot when an unknown person walked up to them and opened fire. Two of the victims are listed in serious condition at area hospitals, and a third is in stable condition at Christ Hospital.

In the 11300 block of South Michigan Avenue, a 33-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle when a person shot him in the leg. He drove to Roseland Hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

A 32-year-old man is in serious condition after a person in a black Dodge fired shots at him, striking him in the leg. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of West 79th Street at approximately 9:17 a.m., police said.

A 49-year-old man was shot while working on his car in the 300 block of East 134th Street on Sunday at approximately 3 p.m. The man was taken to Metro South and released with a graze wound.

A short time later, about 2:30 p.m., a 23-year-old arrived at Roseland Community Hospital after being shot in the back, police said. The man said he was shot while driving in the 0 to 100 block of West 124th Street in West Pullman; he heard gunshots and felt pain. His condition also was stabilized.
