Tom G, I don't agree with a number of other person's opinions but if they are spoken with intelligence and integrity I respect every single one of them. Discourse and debate is the foundation of our representative democracy. Who we are as a people and as a nation evolves and changes over time. We used to exalt an economy based on slave labor, deny women the vote and criminalize mixed-marriages. We believed in separate-but-equal and allowed men to legislate womens bodies. What was then isn't now because we protect and value free speech, the evolution of ideas and changing definitions of who we are as a nation. It isn't easy. We still have States like Indiana that want to legitimize hatred and discrimination while pretending to be Christian and hiding behind the fraudulent claim of religious freedom. A public forum is good for finding a lost pet, getting references for a plumber or announcing community events. But it also is good for exchanging and challenging ideas.

Wellington and Mildred resident's

Stop being such cry babies about the ambulances and now fire trucks parking on Wellington in front of Illionis Masonic Hospital. You don't own the street and if you got a life and stopped staring out your window, you wouldn't even know they were there.
The good people of the neighborhood are tired of listening to you whine. What, did you buy your house in the middle of the night and not notice the huge hospital?
Shut up already!

The hospital has been a great neighbor since I moved here in 1959. They go above and beyond as a steward of the neighborhood. Masonic is so busy with fire trucks and ambulances that carry the sick and dying to their ER that they cant appease the neighbors all of the time. I really hope that someone in these "entitled, everything is about me" families needs to get there rapidly or their house is burning. Let's see how that unfolds when the self anointed emergency vehicle police have their way. It couldn't happen to a better group of people.

Lost Wedding Rings

Please help me find my lost rings. The wedding band is rose gold with diamonds all the way around, the second band is plain gold. The engagement ring is platinum with a circle cut center stone and a halo of diamonds and diamonds on the band as well.

I really want these items back as they are very sentimental to me. There will be a reward and no questions asked if returned.

Found ring

I found a ring on the sidewalk on Pine Grove north of West Sheridan on the east side of the street in front of an apartment building. It's silver with a stone in the center. Please post if you lost a ring.

  • Hi,

I lost my rings last October so this is a long shot but just wondering if the ring you found is a round cut, halo set engagement ring? If you have an email address I can send you a picture.

    Let me know, thanks!!

Lost black and white cat

Mila got out of her home on Lakewood between Diversey and Wolfram in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago on Saturday, September 6, 2014, and she is still missing.

Mila is a 3 year-old black-and-white cat with green-yellow eyes. Her back is black while her belly, chest and paws are white. She has black around her eyes and a little black button nose. Mila is micro-chipped and was wearing a black-and-white collar with her name and our number on it. The collar has no tags or bells attached.

See more photos of Mila: danielleg.com/mila

REWARD: $1,000

  • G.

I'm always keeping my eye out for her. I hope she is safe with a family and you find her soon.

I'm not 100% that it was Mila, but it looked enough alike her for me to write. This happened around 12:00pm today, Saturday March 28th. This cat was in the alley behind 856 W Wolfram and ran into the yard behind/adjacent to this building. (I did go back outside after putting my dog in but didn't see it. I couldn't enter the person's yard.) I hope this helps!

  • Thanks JAdiversey. There is a cat that looks a lot like Mila living in the 800 block of Wolfram. That cat wears a collar with a bell or tag hanging from it. Mila also has a collar but it's black and white, and didn't haven anything dangling from it.

Why didn't you tell me.......???

that Pompei, the pizza/italian restaurant, reopened on Sheffield and Wellington??? The only excuse I'll accept is that you didn't know either.

I'm wondering if they are affiliated with the original Taylor St. Pompei, or if this is another franchise deal.

  • G.

Was surprised when I a saw the signage showing they were coming back. It's great to have them back. I don't eat there often, but the quality it good and service fast. I'm sure the Masonic crowd keeps them busy.

Well, I was finally able to give the "new" Pompei a try this weekend. I do admit it was not quite the same as the Pompei on Taylor St. It seemed very sterile. Also, the electronic menu boards through me off for a minute. I ordered a stuffed slice of sausage and ricotta, something I haven't had in years. It was good, but the crust seemed different. Doughier maybe. It wasn't bad, just different.

Now, let me tell you about something AMAZING about the "new" Pompei. They have a special dessert section. My son and I shared a Belgium waffle with Nutella, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. This is NOT for someone who is counting your calories, but if you want a dessert that will knock your socks off, please, try one of their waffles. Frickin GLORIOUS!!!

Okay, I'm done playing food critic. I would recommend the "new" Pompei, especially, their desserts. :)

Permit question

We are in the process of buying a new duplex in Lake View (yay!) and once everything is finalized will need/want to do some work on the unit including updating the kitchen and maybe some work on the above garage deck. I know a lot of the work will require city permits. Does anyone have advice on navigating those waters? We've only rented till now so I have no idea what we are getting into. Also any suggestions for designers and/or contractors is greatly appreciated! TIA!!!

The building department in this city is so corrupt it's amazing. Pay an expeditor or it's 3+ months. Total corruption, still continuing under Rahm.

Jon above describe it just perfect. Be sure to hire someone who is known in the business and have good recommendation. Lot of people just looking for the cheapest price. Never go with the cheapest proposal. This is the project you live with. I do commercial only but I can definitely recommend some good remodelers.
