The Post is a Happy Days for old journalists
click to enlarge , the Oscar-winning movie of two years ago, made me feel proud to be a journalist. , which I finally saw over the weekend, reminded me how much fun the business is. Or at least was once upon a time. I'm pretty sure it still has its moments.

Too bad that journalism is more like "activism" these days. The job was to report the news, but now the job is to follow a determined agenda given by special interests.

  • 100-percent correct

@Phill - You wrote: "Too bad that journalism is more like "activism" these days."

There has always been a measure of activism in American journalism. Your comment seems to suggest that reporting was once a dispassionate account of activities; however, McCarthy-era HUAC proceedings, the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, Watergate, the Pentagon Papers, etc. were all tinged with a level of activism. As far back as the "yellow journalism" of Wm. R. Hurst (once quoted as saying, "You furnish the pictures and I’ll furnish the war.") there has been editorial influence on what was printed and reported.

It is only recently that certain politicians seem to have thinner skin than their forerunners.

Michael Archangel, what about the MSM campaigning full force for Hillary Clinton a good two/three years before the election?
    Answer, please.

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

@Phill - Not sure the point of your question. My previous comment was not disputing your statement only pointing out to you that editorial bias has always been present in the media. All you need to do is look back through our history and current flagrant media biases were made possible by the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987.

You seem to want to pick an ideological fight but that would be foolhardy given the degree of hypocrisy by both the conservative and liberal media.

However, I can always count on you to interject HRC into the discussion so, thanks! LOL!!!

  • Phill Unfair suspension without reason. No rules broken

Nope, you stated "There has always been a measure of activism in American journalism" and "It is only recently that certain politicians seem to have thinner skin than their forerunners".
So, by your own logic, it seems that Obama had a very thick skin that was invulnerable to the multiple, malicious, attacks against him by the MSM. Yeah?

  • Phill Unfair suspension without reason. No rules broken

It's CNN biased? It's CNN a news network or an ACTIVIST network?

Why do you think all those YouTube compilations of election night are so popular? Watching Wolf Blitzer, Rachel Maddow, etc. swallowing their pride is priceless. They were paid to push an agenda and failed.

  • Rob

Yes Pedro, we know you like to watch youtube videos of election night while drinking a beer.

Would you care to comment on McCabe being forced out today or Trumps failure to implement the Russian sanctions bill passed by congress? Perfectly fits with any discussion about Nixon and journalists.

  • Phill Unfair suspension without reason. No rules broken

    My words hit a nerve.

  • Phill Unfair suspension without reason. No rules broken

Nixon? FISA memo? Do you like surprises? LOL!

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

@Phill - First, speaking of logic, I made no reference to Obama in my comments and the fact that you unilaterally drew a conclusion using your own interpretation of my words is yet another example of a straw man argument which you seem to engage in pretty frequently.

I did state that there has always been a measure of editorial bias in the media, which history does support. I did state that the 1987 repeal of the Fairness Doctrine has exacerbated the degree of ideologically-based editorializing from both the conservative and liberal media outlets. I did state that certain politicians appear to have thinner skins than their historical counterparts when it comes to media coverage.

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

@Phill - In regards to your questions, "It's CNN biased? It's CNN a news network or an ACTIVIST network?", as I pointed out and reiterated conservative and liberal media outlets are guilty of this hypocrisy. One could easily reframe your question and ask if Fox News is biased or if Fox News an activist network.

  • Spam Alert Don't be selling your used junk up in here, okay?

I used to enjoy reading Michael Miner in the Reader. This is just a brief old man kinda rant. Also has a spoiler which should be a big no-no.

  • Phill Unfair suspension without reason. No rules broken

Michael Archangel, once again, you stated that ""It is only recently that certain politicians seem to have thinner skin than their forerunners".

So, by your comment, we can deduce that Obama had bulletproof skin against the multiple, malicious, fake news, attacks, upon him perpetrated by the special interest-controlled media. Yes?

  • Phill Unfair suspension without reason. No rules broken

Micheal Archangel, you're just agreeing that "everybody is biased" and leaving aside the fact that almost all media is biased in favor of THE SAME POLITICAL AGENDA.

Are these media outlets biased and pushing the same narrative?

    CNN
    MSNBC
    ABC
    CBS
    NBC
    PBS
    HBO
    Washington Post
    NYT
    USA Today
    Chicago Tribune
    Chicago Sun-Times
    NPR
    Huffignton Post
    Facebook
    Twitter
    MSN
    Google
    Yahoo

Yes, they are. Do you agree?

"Oh but, but, but, FOX News is based too!!!!!!!!"

    LOL LOL LOL!

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

@Phill - You wrote: "So, by your comment, we can deduce that Obama had bulletproof skin against the multiple, malicious, fake news, attacks, upon him perpetrated by the special interest-controlled media."

Once again you commit a logical fallacy by creating a straw man argument. Restating it does not make me any more inclined to answer an improperly asked question or to allow you to move the goalposts an change the subject.

    Try again Phill!!! LOL!!!!

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

@Phill - I see you moved the goal posts again - a common tactic of yours when your original argument is countered. Specifically, you were asking about CNN. After I demonstrated that it would be easy to replace CNN with Fox News, you then expand your list, which I can certainly do as well by adding:

    Breitbart
    Drudge
    Independent Journal Review
    Newsmax
    Right Side Broadcasting
    CBN
    The Daily Caller
    The Federalist
    The Washington Times
    The National Review
    The Weekly Standard
    etc
    etc
    etc.

    LOL!!!!

So you are claiming that all those media sources are biased and pushing the same narrative. However, what if all or even some of that narrative is rooted in fact? Do those media sources abdicate all journalistic responsibility to probe the facts?

I await your next change of topic...

  • Orange is the new DEGENERATE

OMG The degenerate "fake news" rants. What was it just a couple of years ago?
    "You're fired!"?
For all those zombie "fake news" chanters; they (the "fake news" channels) can't ALL be wrong.
    How convenient to chant that.
It's better then putting ones hands over ones ears and yelling NAH, NAH, NAH, NAH, NAH, I suppose.

  • jaye els Returned to Hyde Park Kenwood

Ah memories. When the American public cared about the political agenda of the Washington Post or earnest PC Leftist actors, directors like Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Rob Reiner or the disgusting Harvey Weinstein.

Even as a small boy I knew "Watergate" was much adieu about nothing.

Daniel Ellsberg a low level Defense Department official was illegally leaking classified documents to the NY Times and Washington Post to discredit the Viet Nam War effort.

Some low level Nixon aides harassed Ellsberg, bugging his hotel room and his psychiatrist. Nobody was killed, nobody raped, nobody even lost their job. President Nixon was never accused of ordering this harassment, just covering up the burglary. Big F*&**(( deal!

Compare that to Director Roman Polanski drugging and raping at least one young teen age girl. Polanski got off scot free and continues to have his films mass released and favorably reviewed.

The problem is the Hollywood media mafia and corrupt fake news lying newspapers TV stations like CNN and the Washington Post.

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

@jaye els - I was trying to find the coherent thread in your comments but it seems to be a collection of random and highly distorted musings that lead to the non sequitur, "The problem is the Hollywood media mafia and corrupt fake news lying newspapers TV stations like CNN and the Washington Post.".

Because you were a "small boy", perhaps you did not appreciate the gravity of Watergate and the role of the POTUS in obstructing justice and suborning.

I am afraid your ignorance on the subject is really glaring!

  • Rob

That's not actually what happened at all in either of those cases, but good try!

  • jaye's agenda might make a good fit for the Flat Earth Society.

  • It's understandable that Trump voters are especially worried today. Lamentably, Phill's posts are not visible to me, but he seems to be getting really worked up.

It's becoming increasingly evident that Trump's obstruction of justice has taken a definitive turn for the worst. Veteran Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein made headlines yesterday when he warned the following: “We are seeing a breakdown and I think we may look back and call this the Monday night slaughter of the administration of justice and our institutions of justice in the United States.”

Of course the Trump voters will amp up the shrillness level in response, but deep down they know very well that the most unpopular president in U.S. history just keeps going more and more unhinged.

  • A handy list of 10 Undisputed Facts About the Russia Probe, from Axios:

    1. At the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, the Trump campaign, chaired by Paul Manafort (since indicted), worked behind the scenes to weaken the party platform's anti-Russia stance on Ukraine.

    2. "Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting."

    3. Top Trump campaign officials met at Trump Tower with sketchy Russians who had offered dirt on Hillary Clinton.

    4. On Air Force One, Trump helped his son, Don Jr., prepare a misleading statement about the meeting.

    5. Trump, contradicting what his staff had said earlier, told NBC he fired FBI Director James Comey because of "this Russia thing."

    6. Michael Flynn, later Trump's first national security adviser, talked privately about sanctions with the Russian ambassador during the transition, then denied it to Vice President Pence.

    7. Flynn (who has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI) failed to disclose payments from Russia-linked entities. Trump has repeatedly defended Flynn.

    8. During the transition, Jared Kushner spoke with the Russian ambassador "about establishing a secret communications channel between the Trump transition team and Moscow."

    9. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, then a U.S. senator, spoke twice to the Russian ambassador, then didn't disclose the contacts during his confirmation hearing.

    10. When Bob Mueller was named special counsel, Republicans widely praised him.

@Omar - Phill will likely add Axios to his list now!
