5 Dead, 11 Wounded In Chicago Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (CBS) - Shootings across Chicago have left 5 people dead and 11 more wounded since Friday afternoon. In a particularly violent six hours of the weekend, nine people were shot - three fatally - in attacks Saturday night into Sunday morning.

  • Only 12.5% of murders committed in Chicago this year have resulted in the State's Attorneys Office prosecuting an offender. This is an abomination.

Kim Fox is a disaster. Cook County Sherif Tom Dart is also very bad. Kim Fox thinks it's racist to hold Black criminals accountable for things like car jacking, armed robbery, rape, drive by shootings. Kim is obsessed that Chicago police stop Black teenage gang members more than Swedish Americans or Japanese tourists.

Don't complain, you get what you voted/didn't vote for. Thank the ACLU and Rahm for a criminal welcoming city you wanted. Have a nice day.

I believe I read somewhere she hadn’t even tried a case when she was an assistant states attorney. I wonder what made people vote for her?

  • Michael McDonough Resident of BelCragin

Excellent point Mute .The media had plenty to do with Foxx being elected because look at how much they covered and hyped on Alvarez and her handling of that case that was all over the news

  • Foxx, Preckwinkle, Dart have decided individuals should be released on individual bonds if they promise to appear for trial. The Chief Judge agreed and they reduced the population of the jail from 9,000 to 4,000.
Guess what 10% of those released failed to appear for trial. Crime does pay in Cook County!

Criminals are kings in dem ruled Chicago!!! As simple as that!

Anita covered up the McDonald murder by CPD. This was done so Rahm could buy off half of the Willie Wilson votes by visiting and donating at churches on the South and West sides. She is just another Emanuel victim kicked to the curb by the voters knowing she was a Rahm team member. Gutters are full of them. Check out the Emanuel brothers interview on YouTube. The last 2 minutes where Ari Emanuel speaks tell you of the goals of the two brothers. Third brother is a doctor. He’s there to give some credibility to his two Israel mafia member brothers. If you think they have anything other than fleecing us on their minds you’re crazy. Kim Fox is just another person shoved
into position to be a puppet
for the rulers of Chicago and Crook County.

  • RAKARWOWSKI RETIRED CITY WORKER, CLEANING UP HUMBOLDT PARK

"Anita covered up the McDonald murder by CPD.", isn't everyone innocent until proven guilty? This is still America right?

  • Michael McDonough Resident of BelCragin

Anita claimed there was insufficient evidence to build a case

It's true that Kim Foxx has very little experience. She was elected because of the Lacquan MacDonald case, and the perception that she botched it. Inmates are being released on personal recognizance bonds by the sheriff, because the county jail is supposedly overcrowded. Both democrats and republicans are complicit in this. The States Attorney only prosecutes cases that they believe they can win. They have little faith in juries because they fear juries like O J Simpson's. The more jury trials they lose, the tougher it is to get reelected. Detectives have a tougher time putting cases together because witnesses are reluctant to come forward with information. Witnesses fall for that "snitches get stitches" propaganda from the local street thugs. Prosecutors also fear that witnesses will flip on them at trail time. It's more complicated than one thinks.

I understand what you're saying, but if everyone took that attitude, no one would go to jail. I hope there isn't a next time, but if there is, do what has worked for law enforcement many times. Deny to the police officer publicly that you don't know the guy, then give him your cell number, and call you in a few minutes after you're out of sight, and you will tell him what you know. It works great. Most of the stuff you see in movies is exaggerated. Most victims and witnesses are strangers to the offender who have no way of tracking you down.

That CAPS facilitator should be fired from her job on the spot. I 'd like to think that she was a civilian and not a police officer who should know better. Detectives and state's attorney's on these cases understand the importance of confidentiality of it all. It is nerve wracking to testify in court if one has never done it, that's why it's part of the job of the state's attorney's office to help witnesses ease the experience for them. They have a unit of people who's job it is to do that, either before or after the case is over. I'm sorry that your experience was so bad. It should have gone smoother. It normally is.

In the districts, you have a sergeant, a police officer or two,a couple of civilian employees, and a civilian CAPS facilitator. I'm not certain what their jobs are, but it isn't to frighten victims and witnesses from signing complaints and attending court.

  • Prisoners are being released by Dart if the bail is unreasonable. He's also working to get psychiatric counseling for mentally ill inmates. Not saying that he's a saint, just trying to do right by non-violent prisoners.

  • chi techie

I guess one can shoplift without any sanctions in Cook County because Dart will not lockup repeat offenders and Foxx will not prosecute them. I feel sorry for the store owners who lose money and their customers who will pay more.

  • Offenders still have to stand trial, they just shouldn't be sitting in jail while waiting to do so, because they can't afford bail.

Dart's program has received national attention, mostly because he wants to release the mentality ill and poor:

Yes they shouldn’t.....Why shouldn’t they again? Car jackings seem to be going great along with all of the thievery. Non violent just booked, give them a court date, and throw them right back to where they were in the first place. Great thinking...... why the city is becoming what it is.

  • Read the CBS piece. One guy was sitting in jail for shoplifting a couple of cans of Red Bull. His bail was set at $500.

The cops need to focus on real crime, not busting someone for possession of a couple of joints.

Bail should be set higher (or not at all) for violent or repeat offenders (like gang members having a gun).

  • West lawner West lawn resident

Vehicular car jacking is non violent. Do you think think offenders of this crime should just be given a court date become they can’t make bail? The whole gun situation and police is a whole conversation within itself.

  • Car jacking carries the threat of violence.

But if you don't mind your tax dollars being used to house petty criminals who can't make bail, that's your prerogative. I'd rather have them do community service.

  • West lawner West lawn resident

Car jacking is considered property crime. Non violent..........

  • West lawner West lawn resident

Keep thinking about Red Bull’s while home burglary, car jacking, and narcotics violations increase.

  • I'm talking about theft and mental illness. No, I don't think car jackers should be released. But I don't think petty theft should warrant jail time before trial. Repeat offenders... yes.

Doesn't matter what any of us think, it's how the city/county handle the offenders.

  • You have to catch those offenders before you can throw them in jail.

@Weatlawner. Car jacking is not nor will it ever be considered a property crime. Auto theft is. In order for a crime to be considered a violently crime, a weapon, violence, or threat of violence is what is needed. Car jacking is in that category.

  • George F in Ravenswood displaced New Yorker

BTW, bond is set by a judge according to a person's background. Not punishment. If a person is consistently arrested, on probation, parole, or a habitual bond violator, such as not appearing in court, their bond will be hire than a first time offender, or someone with a minor criminal record.. That's why there seems to be a disparity in setting bonds. A person's background and the seriousness of the crime is the criteria.

@Mute: It sounds as though you should've gotten an Ibond, if your story is accurate. Maybe the judge took you at your word and assumed that you would act on your threat, or perhaps the complainant was a sympathetic figure. A woman or a senior citizen would qualify.

At some point you must have appeared before a judge, otherwise how can the case be dismissed? The fact that both of you are of the same gender doesn't enter into it in domestic related cases, if that is what this was. The complainant's background doesn't enter into either.

Since the charge was a misdemeanor, the bond wasn't set in court. Normally a bond is set after your prints clear by a judge over the phone. If the bond isn't made, the person sits in the lockup all night, and appears in court the following day. A watch commander can authorize an ibond before appearing in court the following day. The judge may raise, or lower the bond. It's their discretion. The judge can also issue an ibond. Everybody can have a different criteria.

I can't disagree. That is how the system is how it's supposed to work, however. There are lots of variables.

  • In the meantime, CPD is trying a new approach to preventing homicides:

I LOVE IT!!! In my day, working Police Officers used their brains and street smarts to do this but it was labeled "PROFILING"! CPD was condemned for this and officers were ordered to stop using this time tested practice in fighting crime. Officers who continued to do this were called racist. Now I guess that a computer tells CPD officers to go after the same offenders it's PC! I wonder if 60 Min. even realizes it was proving how wonderful and effective profiling really is. I can't wait till they explain how they made this PC blunder.

  • They're not going after them to arrest them, but to prevent homicides.

  • George F in Ravenswood displaced New Yorker

Retaliation occurs only rarely. Most offenders are strangers to their victims. If you fear being followed home from court by the bad guy's friends, then pull into a police station, or pull over into a safe location, and call 911. Tactical teams jump all over a 911 call like that.

  • RAKARWOWSKI RETIRED CITY WORKER, CLEANING UP HUMBOLDT PARK

LOL, CPD Officers do a lot more than just arrest criminals. I remember many times an Officer came across a violent criminal and warned them, they should leave the area before they became a victim. Then shortly after driving away, return to the shots fired call only to find the violent criminal shot dead. I call that attempting to prevent a homicide. To bad the violent criminal didn't accept the Officers help.
