Uptown finally has a doughnut shop -- just like on TV
Ever since "Superior Donuts" debuted on CBS in 2017, fans of the set-in-Chicago-but-films-in-LA television series have been searching in vain for the allegedly Uptown-based doughnut shop that gives the show its name. It doesn't exist. Now, in a case of life imitating art, the made-up Superior Donuts has a real-world counterpart: Uptown Donuts, which opened over the weekend at 1122 W.

  • Love this! Folks are really excited to see retail thriving on Wilson!

Stay on topic it's not a real estate post.

    It's about a donut shop.

    Thank you.

  • Great addition to Uptown. I see they sold out at one point today!

Unless I’m missing something, a doughnut shop is a retail establishment!!! Racine Steve, you’re right on topic!! Some folks are afraid that Uptown is moving forward and thriving, last I heard from neighbors, they want retail.
    Let’s all support it.

  • chrisfinn bornagain chicagoan

Well, we all knew it had to be on Wilson, didn't we.

  • Good article about this in Thursday's (4/19) Sun Times.....wow...lots of different d-nuts!

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

D-nuts is the same number of letters as Donuts.

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

Unless you are intoxicated or blind, no same number o letters!!!!

  • There was a line almost out the door today when I stopped by. Never in a million years would I have guessed there would be a lovely donut shop next to the Wilson Men's Hotel. Once the conversion officially begins, Wilson will continue to flourish.

  • Some Lakeview friends of mine traveled over here to visit Uptown Donuts to try it out. Remember when something like that would have been unheard of? I never dreamed the turnaround of this neighborhood could have happened so fast.

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

    Becky,
That’s what happens when neighbors work hand in hand with the Alderman , forming strong block clubs, encourage development and growth. Of course there is always a minority that in spite of the positive changes choose to be negative 👎.
In spite of them, Uptown is changing and moving forward at a fast clip.
Yay Uptown!! Thanks for noticing Becky and thanks for supporting the new establishment, much more to come.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

I am sure legions of people in Lakeview will venture to Uptown for donuts. It's not like they have Stan's donuts or anything.....ha.

    It's a donut shop folks. It's donuts.d o n u t s.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

Aldermen are not involved in donut shops. Unless they need upzoning or special use permit...not the case.

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

Alderman has a lot of input in the growth of a community , businesses have no interest in setting up shop in a wasteland or decrepit areas. Since the past Alderbeast left Uptown a deteriorating mess, huge inroads have been made to bring Uptown on the map for a viable neighborhood for folks to be interested in coming to live here and investing in businesses.
My post was intended to celebrate the growth, and I guess it was an avenue for some to take an underhanded dig at the Alderman. Negativity is not welcome nor needed-in any
Neighborhood, it’s counter productive and breeds disharmony.
Good day all, enjoy the sunshine and some doughnuts.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

That is a negative comment..for a donut shop, not harmonious indeedly.

No communication or community "input" was needed or asked for.

Somebody wanted to open a donut shop and they did it within their rights, the regulations and zoning. No Aldermanic "help" needed.

The political grandstanding for a particularly unpopular Alderman is kinda sad and probably confusing to most people...donut lovers or not.

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

Littleton, had a conversation with neighbors and the only one who is particularly unpopular, hand down is a certain quasi artist.
Had to squeeze in another Alderman dig?? No worries
It’s happening in spite of you,
    Good day matey

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

That is a confusing and altogether negative comment for a donut shop.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

It's not a dig to say Alderman do not have anything to do with a donut shop...it's just a neutral and generic fact.

  • Guys...stop it - enough already. Reading your back-and-forth slams against each other is a real slide into the muck.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

I was cool to just keep it about donuts.

Then the usual partisan bandwagon shows up....

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

    Statute,
I will always respond to negativity, we have enough of that in the world. The constant attacks on the Alderman and our community is as I said counterproductive and borders.on just being plain mean spirited. I see that his post was removed, that’s a start!! Unfortunately I have had just one too many interactions with this particular person that my hair is on fire and the continuous posts slamming any positive additions to our neighborhood is frustrating at best. The latest was about the new upscale restaurant opening on Lawrence, I could go on.
I am a longtime resident here and will always speak up when it is the same person maligning folks who are looking forward to an Uptown that is finally starting to thrive.

  • UK and Jeff - Pointless, isn't it? And, frustrating, too? So, why bother......you two are at opposite ends of the spectrum and both of you have this need to "be right." Gee, that's really adult....so you throw your apples back and forth at each other.
B-o-r-i-n-g....and clutters up a thread for no reason other than ego and you "need" to be right.

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

Thank you for the therapy session. I choose not to walk through life blindfolded and with earplugs!! Since you don’t know the entire background of my frustration , it’s easy to judge the so called cluttered posts. I have no need to be right, ever, I do feel the need however to respond to endless negativity especially when it has affected me directly!!! So you see, sometimes there are back stories. As for apples, mine are still in my fruit bowl where they belong.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

    It's utterly pointless, I agree.

  • future alderman future alderman

anyone who is actually a long-time (defined as 10 years or more) would not be applauding a donut shop as a sign of anything-except super-cheap rents

  • future alderman future alderman

what's really funny is this is from the daily herald-whose geographic area supplies most of cappleman's campaign money-lookitup

  • fa, what is worth applauding is the different types of small businesses coming into the area. You know, a selection of diverse businesses for a very diverse area.

If you did a better job of telling all prospective businesses your specific needs and tastes, I'm sure they would all make sure you were happy with their business model.

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

    Future Alderman,
You mean like the subsidized rents? 2 accounts is hardly a way to hide who you are, are you running for Alderman again?

  • future alderman future alderman

pretty sure i only have 1 account-i worked for cappleman once or twice-i know who his donors are and most are a matter of public record-he is firmly AGAINST subsidized rents in uptown as everyone knows

  • fa, you stated it's a matter of public record that Cappleman is firmly AGAINST subsided rents in Uptown. I've seen his tweets where he appears to brag about Uptown having the most subsidized housing in the city. Could you please show me this public record that says he's against subsidized rents? I can't seem to find it.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

    I can provide tweets....

  • I say this in the most respectful way, but you have a very long history of providing alternative facts. Please provide the tweets that substantiate your claim. I follow the alderman on twitter and never saw anything that supports your statement.

  • Ukirain2015 Uptown resident

    Becky,
Some folks just make up their own facts.
And some are mandated to stay off social media with negativity!!
    We are all watching

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator/Local Artist

    Great donuts, had some today.

  • future alderman future alderman

    wow---he's not bragging,he's complaining
