  • I actually witnessed this shooting in Rogers Park! I was in an uber on the way to my friends house. We saw 4 black males, looked like teens or early 20's, running across the street and screaming. My driver said "Those guys look like they're up to no good". A second later one pulled out a gun and fired about 3 shots. We both ducked down in the car and kept driving. I called the police immediately. I hope they caught these idiots shooting up the neighborhodd.

I have a feeling it's going to be a bad summer as far as crime goes. I've been seeing more creeps than usual hanging around the Loyola 'L',and on side streets around there. I hope the college kids wise up and start practicing being aware of their surroundings. They are like ducks in a barrel to any thug.

  • d3 NoHo

When the detectives are now 6-8 miles away on roads that are slowed down due to Uber drivers and road diets.... No arrests are being made ... Remember when mcCarthy told us 5+ years ago all of these shootings were happening by the same 450 gang members they had identified?? Lol.

  • Rob

"I've been seeing more creeps than usual hanging around the Loyola 'L'"

    Define "creeps".

  • Kelly Hudson Rogers Park resident for sometime

I don't believe that they have ever arrested a shooter-unless they fall down and can't get up.

Try using this CPD technology and see if it gets you anywhere. So far it is a failure.
List your concerns and service requests. Track them through the City 311 system. COMPLAIN when you do not get the service CPD is supposed to deliver.

Get ready for alot of spinning like a top responses. Stay steadfast and keep reporting over and over and over.

You may have to go to the IG for better response.

Eddie Johnson has done more than any other Superintendent! However, the union puts up so much resistance it is UNBELIEVABLE. Management is not tough enough on Union slacking (aka work slowdown)

You periodically post about the location of the Area North Detectives and attempt to make an association between that and arrests. You do realize you are making a spurious argument there, right? Immediate arrests in a shooting like the one reported will either be tactical units in the area or the beat officers who respond to the "shots fired" calls. The detectives, unlike firemen, do not slide down the big pole and jump into their cars to respond to these incidents. They are assigned the cases and then do follow up investigations and subsequent arrests.

  • Thank you for stating the obvious MA. d2's repetitive misrepresentation of what the role of a detective had to be openly corrected. Detectives, as you correctly point out, are not rapid response personnel like EMTs, paramedics or bomb squad personnel. They engage in careful and deliberate investigation. The crime scene investigation and collection of evidence, such as bullet casings, begins with the first responding patrol officers. This chronic fixation on where the Area North Detectives have offices is distracting and irrelevant to any meaningful discussion of crime events.

  • Maggie neff

Rob wants me to define "creeps". Lol. Something tells me he's setting a trap. Shall I indulge his self rightous, inquisitiveness or just chalk it up to Rob being Rob and resist the temptation? Sorry Rob. I can see you're hungry but I don't think I'll feed you today.

  • gpblight 22 Yr East Garfield Resident

The City has CAMERAS and AERIAL view. There is no reason at all to loose someone with AERIAL view.

The public is in THE DARK about how technology could bring quantum improvements in policing. They think like it is 1950 long before the advent of the internet.

They can see who is walking into the Chinese consulate in China....so we can see/catc/incarcerate more than we do.

Accept the fact that a bankrupt city, state, county, cannot afford lockup costs of $80,000 a year. Lawmakers are scrambling to figure out how to "un arrest" criminals. Librals start with the liberal view. Not everybody locked up is innocent.

Investigations? Don't get me started. Do Chicago Detectives have a 30% solve rate and 20% for murders?

Lots more can be done to make streets safer than putting newscasts out praising reduction in crime caused from under counting shots.

  • d3 NoHo

If this were baltimore they'd have the police helicopter up and circling at all times 5pm-5am with the spotlight shining down too. All funded with drug seizure money just as the CPD helicopter is but CPD doesn't use theirs as effectively.

  • "Creeps" isn't at all useful as a descriptive term or in helping neighbors be alert to avoid "a certain element" who look like "those kinds of people". References to visual stereotypes and the use of code phrases, which very often are based on prejudices and bigotries, are not helpful in reducing crime. Maggie what exactly do the people who "hang around the Loyola 'L' and on side streets around there" look like? Please help us be safe.

There are lots n' lots of tools not used efficiently. If you match specific Directives to what service you get in your neighborhood you will be SHOCKED.

  • d3 NoHo

Thank you for stating the obvious MA. I'm well aware of that being the order of operations at CPD and your point of clarification has nothing to do with the fact that detectives in this city are extremely ineffective and inefficient.

  • d3 NoHo

It's not at all irrelevant. Under this current administration our detective units through out the city were consolidated. All whole they were already short on resources and ineffective. They weren't giving tech upgrades when this happened they still drive 8 miles to Belmont and Western to fill out their paperwork as they investigate..
If you really can't see the correlation I'm not sire you're qualified to weigh in.

@d3 - If you believe I am stating the obvious then why do you insist on making the same argument? Implicit in what you wrote was that there is a spatial relationship between the location of the Area North Detectives offices and arrests. Re-read your own words!

Michael there is a direct relationship...you repeating that you don't understand the point doesn't make it not true.

  • d3 NoHo

I think the biggest danger facing CMSA as they leave is the lack of crosswalk enforcement at the crosswalks directly outside of their school. I've been hot not once but twice at these crosswalks in the past three months. One of them was literally the day before national crosswalk safety day and 8 hours later the OEMC was tweeting about how they were having enforcement... Well nothing by cmsa happene that day. The police don't even respond. Dispatchers try to convince you that police can't respond and tell you to call the local police whose response is I should attend and complain at CAPS...

  • d3 NoHo

    Hot=hit

Lol. Nice try,Live, but I'm not going to bite.

The parents on the CMSA LSC should continue to lobby for safe passage routes around the school.
Gunshots #1 reason parents avoid schools in RP.

You are engaging in a false argument (logical fallacy) known as 'the Fallacy of Alleged Certainty. which asserts a conclusion without evidence or premises. I am sorry you do not understand this but you constantly engage in advancing this faulty argument.

Would you make that same argument for Englewood, Lawndale, Austin, etc?

Rob, I suspect that by "creeps" Maggie is referring to people who look like many of my neighbors. To me, they're just folks in the neighborhood.
