    Restaurant fundraisers to help cover costs of Naperville park programs for low-income families
    Several Napervillea-area restaurants have scheduled fundraisers to help defray the costs for low-income families wanting to participate in Naperville Park District programs, officials said. The Fee Assistance Program helps cover the expense of recreation programs and seasonal memberships for families who couldn't otherwise afford to pay, Brad Wilson, the district's director of recreation, said in a news release.

The next step for the park district is to refine the draft site master plan based on resident input and to bring the plan to the board of commissioners for discussion at a special board meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 14 at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street.

    My adorable kitten/cat Nemo was killed on April 18. He was apparently struck by a moving vehicle crossing Oswego Street across from the Grand Reserve apartments in Naperville. I spent that night looking for him when he didn't come home and, much to my shock, I found him at 6 a.m.

Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Jon Meacham will talk about his book, “The Soul of America,” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the Science Center at North Central College, 131 S. Loomis St.

Following the parade, a 30-minute observance will begin at 12:15 p.m. at the Naperville Community Concert Center in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave. The ceremony remembers the sacrifice of veterans and features patriotic music performed by the Naperville Municipal Band.

The Naperville Park District is showing “The Parent Trap” as part of its free outdoor movie series, “A Night at the Movies,” at 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave.

Naperville’s Farmers Market is set for 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays starting June 2 at the 5th Avenue Station parking lot, 200 E. 5th Ave.

Online registration has closed, but walk-in registration is available from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 31, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Naperville Running Company, 34 W. Jefferson Ave. There will be no race-day registration.
