The deaths this past week of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain underscore the challenge each of us face in preventing suicide. A report just released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 54 percent of Americans who died by suicide in 2016 had no known mental health illness.

After more than a year of work, the plan was unveiled to about 150 people at Michele Clark High School on June 2. A final draft is expected to be released in September.

    The long-awaited quality of life plan being worked on by dozens of West Side residents for more than a year was unveiled Saturday at the third and final community summit. About 150 people, including 37th Ward Ald. Emma Mitts, attended Saturday's meeting, held at Michele Clark High School, with many of them providing feedback on the plan.
