I can appreciate your position and you gave me something to reflect on about my previous experiences in Logan Square. When we bought our building near Kedzie and Armitage in 1996, it was a much different area. Gangs and drugs were a huge problem. I always had my sidearm with me when I watered the lawn or cut the grass. My neighbors and I worked with CAPS religiously and it eventually made a difference. I cannot begin to tell how many times I was threatened with bodily harm, had all my windows broken on my cars and building, and even two stolen vehicles driven through the overhead door of my garage.

My point is I understand and respect the Second Amendment, but there are 9 more Amendments in the Bill of Rights that we should give the same consideration to. Not once did I ever show or pull my weapon, because that would have meant I was going to use it. More training is never a bad thing when you want to own and carry a weapon that in the wrong hands, could take the life of someones child, wife, or family member. We track different statistics about different types of vehicle accidents in order to improve car safety and improve our driving laws. Why wouldn't wec want more data on the circumstances a Concealed and Carry permit owner drew and used his weapon.

  • More training is a wonderful thing....agreed! "well regulated" in the second amendment is not "government oversight"

if means "well practiced, well trained"

So many in the 2A community like to draw this distinction, so it doesn't make sense to me how many seem so opposed to training.

    More data would...

    More data would be useful.

If you noticed the link I left above, is an example of data from states that have some history with lawful carry.

I have not seen any published data from Illinois. Might be too early....but there is a real reason why 50 states now have *some* provision for carry.

some have minor restrictions, others are near-impossible....but all 50 states have made allowances.

11 states have now gone to "constitutional carry" based on the data that is similar to what the texas study has found.
