Races can live harmoniously if they share similar cultural values. Look at the clash in western Europe since mass migration, it's a mess.

I have lived in different countries and diversity only worked when everyone involved agreed to a common standard. That was the case in the German dormitories and in every international program accross Europe (East and West after the Fall of the Berlin Wall). The reason was not that we all shared original values in the first place 'cause we didn't (we were people from every continent and world region, you name it!). It worked because we agreed on common standards of hygiene, housekeeping, budgets and even movie time when all we had were VHS tapes. However once I studied in a different kind of project/environment in which the organisers did not brief newcomers. They had very little understanding of common standards so when we, the Western girls, got to drink beer and socialize with many some guys found it inappropriate. Immediately some of the least understanding Europeans stereotyped them instead of having a civil conversation about it. Things only deteriorated for a few days but then the magic of French brought us all together and we lived happily ever after except that some of them didn't try the delectable Franziskaner beer because it was against their religion. Fine. No questions asked. But you're right, Eric things are getting extremely ugly in Europe and this time the eternal magic of French ain't helping 😢

Do we had a president who started a major war based on lies about weapons of mass destruction, another president who engaged in extra marital cigar induced escapade at the white house, a mayor who had more scandals during his long term than a pop star and who some of his best friends are mobsters, so bad that his police superintendent A. Rodriguez had to abruptly quit because the heat was beginning to burn, etc, etc.but a guy gets sent to jail for standing alone and not having powerful friends in high places, gotta love it.

***FOUND*** Small tan male dog- possibly a chihuahua mix- found 1/15 early morning around 12am in Lincoln Square on the corner of Lincoln and Montrose in Chicago. Was wandering and looked cold with no owner in sight. Such a sweet boy- ran straight to me when approached. Was shaking and cold, so my husband and I warmed him up and took him to Medvet on Belmont/Clybourn. We live in Aurora so did not want to take him too far away from where we found him. No collar or microchip. He looks well fed and is so friendly, obedient, and sweet- he must have an owner/family out there who is missing him! Medvet will keep him 2-3 days and then he could be sent to Chicago Animal Control. Please contact Medvet @ 3123 N Clybourn (the emergency vet- not the cancer center) 773-281-7110 or reply to this post.

2017 birding highlights from suburbs and beyond

The 2017 Montrose haul featured cattle egret, snowy egret, western grebe, piping plover, laughing gull, American bittern, lark sparrow, scissor-tailed flycatcher, Bell's vireo, Kentucky warbler, summer tanager and yellow-headed blackbird.

2017 birding highlights from suburbs and beyond
We obviously just endured a tough year. The bad news far outweighed the good. Fortunately, there were birds. Watching birds can slow things down and help us forget for five minutes or five hours. I hope you took advantage of our hobby's calming effects, just like I did. We needed it.
