In May 2018 The Chicago Fund for Safe and Peaceful Communities has awarded AWOFINC a 2018 grant, one of 132 rapid-response grants to support activities that promote safe and peaceful conditions in 19 prioritized Chicago communities. AWOFINC's Parent Information & Resouces, Violence Prevention Consortium and Youth Leadership & Development initiatives seek to identify and establish Community-Based Participatory Partnerships with groups and organizations. The consortium will be actively engaging multiple communities. On Wednesday, May 16, 2018 Alderman Cardenas hosted a job fair at the McKinley Park Library located at 1915 W 35th St. At this event, residents from the 12th Ward and beyond met with 13 local companies regarding their job openings. Many of these residents, which included teenagers and seniors, were able to complete job applications on the spot. This job fair is part of an ongoing effort by Alderman Cardenas to spur economic development by connecting Ward residents with good-paying local jobs.
