The Six Corners Association sponsored “The Essence of Nature” by Janet Austin in partnership with Chicago Sculpture Exhibit. The sculpture, located in front of 4021 N. Milwaukee, celebrates nature in our urban environment.

Sterling Bay Development generously donated “Weighing-Scale of Nature” by Jorge Leyva, which was placed in the plaza area located at Northwest Highway and Central. This thought-provoking piece will serve as a catalyst to dialogue while activating a previously empty space.

Performances begin Saturday, June 2 at The Playhouse, 4766 N. Milwaukee, and will run through Saturday, June 10. More information and tickets are available online. Tickets are free for kids 12 and younger, and only $10 for those ages 13 and older.

At least 2 killed, 4 wounded in shootings as Memorial Day weekend begins

Most recently, about 5:21 a.m. Saturday, someone inside a vehicle shot a 42-year-old man who was on foot in the 6100 block of West Grace Street in Portage Park. The man was shot in his chest and abdomen and was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where police said he’s in critical condition.

Officers responding to a call about a person down about 1:25 a.m. Saturday in West Englewood found a man facedown in the 2300 block of West 70th Street. He had been shot in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He has not been identified.

...a shooting shortly after 11:35 p.m. Friday. They were standing outside in the 9100 block of South Aberdeen, talking, when two others briefy exchanged words before shooting them, hitting the 36-year-old...

About 5:55 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the Noble Square neighborhood inthe 1100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. He was shot in the arm, and taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Earlier Friday police said a 38-year-old man was shot in the back in the Chatham neighborhood about 2:45 p.m. in the 7800 block of South Evans Avenue. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where his condition was stabilzed.

    At least two people were wounded in shootings as the Memorial Day weekend began Friday afternoon, Chicago police said. The first shooting of the holiday weekend according to the Tribune's tally which began after 3 p.m. Friday, happened shortly after 5 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood.

    The Chicago Police Department this week successfully led a narcotics mission that arrested 10 individuals for selling narcotics in the Uptown area of the 48th Ward. This joint operation with the 19th and 20th District was focused on gang and drug activity in the area south of Foster.
