At least 2 killed, 4 wounded in shootings as Memorial Day weekend begins

About 5:55 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the Noble Square neighborhood inthe 1100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. He was shot in the arm, and taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Most recently, about 5:21 a.m. Saturday, someone inside a vehicle shot a 42-year-old man who was on foot in the 6100 block of West Grace Street in Portage Park. The man was shot in his chest and abdomen and was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where police said he’s in critical condition.

Officers responding to a call about a person down about 1:25 a.m. Saturday in West Englewood found a man facedown in the 2300 block of West 70th Street. He had been shot in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He has not been identified.

Earlier Friday police said a 38-year-old man was shot in the back in the Chatham neighborhood about 2:45 p.m. in the 7800 block of South Evans Avenue. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where his condition was stabilzed.

    At least two people were wounded in shootings as the Memorial Day weekend began Friday afternoon, Chicago police said. The first shooting of the holiday weekend according to the Tribune's tally which began after 3 p.m. Friday, happened shortly after 5 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood.
