A Letter From George Today is a great day. W...

A Letter From George Today is a great day. We have come together as a community to build upon our promises. 2017 was a year of abundance in the 12th Ward. Our schools were funded, with more work to always do. Our parks were cleaned, re-structured and expanded. My relationship with our parks is better than ever. I supported local PACs to bring a new scoreboard and increased security to Kelly, daily and weekly movies at the park and programs at La Villita and one of my favorites-our third annual Midnight Circus in the Parks at McKinley Park. Our kids and families have more to do, with more fields, events, and programs. A truly inclusive park system to increase our health and happiness. The picture above is a victory for the working people with my collaboration with SEIU and city-wide unions. I supported their #povertydoesntfly campaign, the CTU TIF Funds Surplus ordinance and the creation of a City of Chicago Labor Office. Our ward works, when we work! The infrastructure of our ward is always moving forward. I worked with several City departments to have miles of streets repaved, piggyback lighting to brighten our nights and installed security cameras in our parks. Water main construction has eased the move to McKinley Park and Brighton Park for our new neighbors on 33rd Pl and Wood, 38th and Wood, and 36th and Western, Business is booming. Little Village welcomed a new coffee shop, Sip 22, a Panda Express on 26th Street and Mi Tierra is back feeding us our traditional fare. Brighton Park welcomed a new At & T store, an Athletico and Ross Dress for Less. McKinley finally has it's own neighborhood bar One City Tap, Pet Supplies Plus and new owners supporting neighborhood causes at Lindy's Chili. I've worked with the Chicago Police Department to decrease crime, increase patrols while shutting down 20 drug and gang houses. Together, we have increased Smoke Outs in the parks to alert gangs that we own our parks. We are creating an increased schedule for this year. Make sure to attend your C.A.P.S. meetings to build a relationship with police and my office. Keep your calls to 911 coming. The more you report the safer we all are. There's even more occurring than I have space to write. Residents have brought me their concerns, requests, and wishes for making the 12th Ward the best ward and I'm consistently delivering. Let's make 2018 an even bigger year. Please make sure to attend my community meetings, support and join your park PACs, get to the 12th Ward LA Fitness for your New Years resolutions and always help out a neighbor. Check my website and the pictures below to commemorate and reminisce about a year well spent together. Make sure you check out my website for all incoming and outgoing 12th Ward news, resources and legislative action. Our progress is just a click away: http://www.12thwardchicago.com/.
