Sandy, most Spaniards find that tradition repulsive and shameful. They don't want to be associated with it and slowly but surely it'll be banned nationally. It's a matter of when, not if. There is a recalcitrant (yet small) cross section of the population that unfortunately supports it, the same ones who didn't have a problem supporting other shameful yet formerly legal practices that I would rather not mention. It's unacceptable. Spain has recently changed other contemptible laws. It's a matter of time at this point in history. The EU cut subsidies to fund such an abomination. What an unpresentable tradition. An embarrassment.

2nd Ward residents and building owners can stop into the service office at 1400 N. Ashland Avenue to pick up these FREE reflective alley address labels for garages. There may be instances when the City's police, fire, and paramedics need to respond to a call by approaching through the alley. When this occurs, it is important to have clearly displayed addresses on your garage or fence. Many buildings in the City of Chicago do not have rear addresses posted which can result in emergency services going to the wrong address. Due to limited supplies we kindly ask that you limit your request to one per address. For more information please email ward02@cityofchicago.org.
