    Walking into the Elgin City Council meeting Wednesday, 74-year-old Beatrice Williams Thompson was ready to make the city back off from closing her downtown hair salon. Instead, she was the surprised recipient of a proclamation as a respected and successful black business owner. "I was worried," said Williams Thompson, who owns Bea's Touch of Styles.

Gartner will move out of 200 W. Jackson Blvd., according to the release, which does not say which CEB offices will be folded into the River North Space. CEB has an office in Rolling Meadows and two offices downtown, at 222 S. Riverside Plaza and 550 W. Jackson Blvd., according to CEB’s website.

    Sorry to see them go! Little home grown spots like this are what made the neighborhood appealing. I believe the owner cites a need for more family time as a reason, but there may be others. I wish her well and thank her for the years of providing this unique spot as well as creating jobs for local residents.Sure hope we don't get another bar.
