Chicago's Wavy ID revels in sweetly sensual indie pop
While watching New Zealand's Connan Mockasin play sensual, luxurious psych-pop at the Empty Bottle in 2014, Adam LP-who's now been making seductive indie-pop songs as Wavy ID for a little over a year-had an epiphany: "I started rethinking different ways to make music, different sounds you can make, different kinds of emotions you can convey-you can be sexy, you can be gentle," LP told me over the phone.

  • Kinda easy to say the City should green light traffic through the area east of 90/94 overpass when you don’t live there. That section of Chicago Ave is very dangerous because people fly through at 50+mph. And that street you use to bypass Chicago Ave to get to Elston is now just as dangerous with high speed traffic disregarding stop signs and pedestrians

  • It's dangerous along other parts too. Eastbound drivers between Western and Damen speed as well. Maybe they're trying to make it through the intersection before the light changes. I don't know, it's been a while since I've driven that way.

Some people are just stupid, racing to an intersection is not going to make the light change any faster.

Maybe the city should install speed cameras at the overpass and start ticketing.

But that won't solve the congestion problem. I still think they should try a rush hour parking ban, at least temporarily, along some parts.

As for drivers ignoring stop signs...I don't know when or why it happened, but the city installed them at just about every intersection on the side streets, even where it makes no sense (like Hubbard at the Kennedy, where it intersects with two dead end streets). I think this has led to a general disrespect for traffic signs and signals.

With their stark but powerful melodies Ethers are much less subtle than they may seem
Though reckless garage-rock foursome Heavy Times weathered several mutations, one consistent component of the band was the subtle, yet heady hooks in underrated frontman Bo Hansen's songwriting. A second was his charming, cynical onstage banter. Luckily, with his newest venture, Ethers, both of these qualities remain firmly intact.

Sat 2/10, 8:30 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, $15, 21+

On the new Coma Noir, the Atlas Moth name our foe-and find a reason to fight
Underappreciated Chicago metal monarchs the Atlas Moth have been incubating their new album, Coma Noir, for nearly four years, and this week their dormancy comes to a welcome end. The band started out more than a decade ago playing a hybrid of psychedelic stoner rock and sludge metal, but every time they return they have a larger wingspan, dazzling and terrible in a new way.

Philly cheesesteaks found in several spots in Chicago area
Italian beef is a Chicago icon, but there's another sandwich making inroads here lately: the Philly cheesesteak. There are five great spots to get a good one -- four in the city and one in the western suburbs. At Mojo's East Coast Eats in a Downers Grove strip mall, the co-mingling of chopped onions with thinly-sliced ribeye occurs frequently in the kitchen.
