  • Chicago Montessori reviewed by a parent

My two boys go to this school. They are both enthusiastic about going to school in the morning. I feel like the school has been a very good partner in providing my children with both the academic and life skills to be well-equipped for their adolescent years and beyond. It's a teacher-led school, which in my experience is better than a parent-led one. The focus is on educating each child within the Montessori method. There aren't any outside demands to make the school bigger and brighter from a very corporate oriented parent board. The tuition is the full cost of attendance. There are no hidden costs in the form of expected donations. Also, there are no parental demands that lead to minor changes in the pedagogy that follow current educational trends and slowly corrode the benefits of Montessori education.

My son is in his 6th year at this school & we hope he will remain there through the adolescent program. He loves school & 9 out of 10 days he d say were great. (In fact, he was recently ill & kept sayin he really wanted to go back to school!) He is in the lower elementary program now & is a very strong reader, is keenly curious about his work & the world, & has made great strides in his math. We have had our challenges. Our son s primary teacher wanted him to stay back an extra 1/2 year before advancing. We were taken aback by the suggestion at first, but after taking with his teacher & the director, we were confident in their observations & suggestion. This is the flexibility of a Montessori education & we were grateful that the program could be adapted to his development. The small community & sincere commitment to AMI Montessori is really lovely to be a part of. I feel supported as a family at home as well as at school.

My daughter is in her 3rd year of the primary program and Chicago Montessori has been nothing short of excellent. She is happy, thriving, and learning so much. She's particularly thrilled with math and Spanish, but really she enjoys all aspects of her day. We're happy with the community that the school offers and its commitment to the Montessori philosophy (it is one of the only AMI certified schools in the city).
