Perspective | I've been a census enumerator. Asking about citizenship is a terrible idea.
CHICAGO - The Van Dorn, an overcrowded apartment building in the Rogers Park neighborhood, is Donald Trump's worst nightmare, both as a luxury real estate developer and a nativist politician. Although its name connoted New York Knickerbocker elegance when it was built in 1923, the Van Dorn is now a shabby hive of tiny studios that overheat whenever the oven is dialed to 425.

    "with a few minor exceptions."

What might those be? And why?

  • Federal employees and their family members who work for our government in other countries. Also, anyone serving elsewhere in the military. Why? I don’t know, but I’d guess it’s because they are only living outside of the US due to their government service, whether it be civilian or military.

That's privately owned property on Morse to the east of the Mayne Annex, The Mayne Stage, JB Albertos and across the street from another Tawani project that is under development right now. Is Bruce claiming some authority over telling the owner of private property what they can or can't do with their own property? Contrary to the claim above, it's not "next to another vacant lot". The owner is using that lot as a parking area in support of a highly successful business on Morse Avenue. It's not "vacant" or unused. Is there a point to posting these photos of privately owned property?

Yes, I think there's a point. It's obviously #3 in a series entitled The Vacant Lots of Rogers Park. What will Tuesday bring? Will it be east or west of Clark? I can hardly wait. Wonder whether he has Mo's farm on his list of vacant lots.

It's all part of a plan.

The simple truth is that 1323 W. Morse, The Farcroft, The Mayne Stage, the Emil Bach House, the Mayne Annex Apartments and many other remodeled or restored locations in Rogers Park never wouldn't be here had the teaching assistant from Northwestern become or any of the other mini-challengers become our Alderman. The teaching assistant's PR sidekick, the Steve Bannon look-alike, would have helped set disastrous policies in place and destroyed years of continuous improvement and progress. The anti-development, anti-commerce, anti-automobile, anti-improvement, anti-City Council minority that always loses the vote would fight to preserve the charm of decrepitude and nostalgia. Face the facts. Even the Buddhist monks grabbed the cash and fled that decaying "Mansion" that was so valued by the faux progressives who still want everyone to ride bicycles in Rogers Park. If they were in control we'd be back in horse and buggy days in a flash.

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

You might check to see whether someone turned them in at the police station on Clark.

  • Thanks for your advice. We were able to find them in the area and they weren’t buried in the snow!

That woman who has all those chickens on Touh...

That woman who has all those chickens on Touhy near Wolcott has the chickens outside in their coops with no heater. I don’t know how much cold ordinary chickens are able to withstand, but these chickens have been outside, continuously, in temps that have been in single digits and sometimes below zero for many days. They are inside coops in the yard and neighboring lot but part of them have no solid wall. Just chicken wire. The chickens are in the coops, huddled together. Are feathers enough to keep birds sufficiently warm at these temps, day in and day out? I called City services, and after getting bounced around a while, the best I could do was to report my concerns to have an animal welfare inspector go out there. Does anyone reading know anything about chickens...what conditions they require to live and stay health?
