Next 49th Ward Alderman

RP...you have a contested election coming up. Good news! Change is in the air.

Enjoy.

  • Omar. like most of your EB comments, your accusations of me having been JarvisJohn are grossly inaccurate

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Omar, all of the comments of the person you think is Jarvis have been deleted and all four of his most recent characters have been inactivated.

NoJoe NoMoore is Needy, not Jarvis, and I can confirm that he knows the alderman. A few summers ago, he came up to say hello to the alderman at a Cubs game when a group of us 49th Ward Dems were in attendance. As far as his lengthy comments above go, they are so full of errors I wouldn't know where to start.

Gang Conflict in Rogers Park Killed Popular Teacher: Ald.

At the intersection of Morse and Glenwood, where Cynthia Trevillion was shot, flowers and notes mark a make-shift memorial.

Gang Conflict in Rogers Park Killed Popular Teacher: Ald.
It would be easy to say Friday night Oct. 13 was unlucky for Cynthia Trevillion. The realty is the tragic event that occurred that night impacted so many more people and highlights an often-overlooked aspect of Chicago's gang violence: it is not just the south and west sides that feel the painful sting of violence.

  • It's really quite astonishing how consistently wrong you are about nearly everything, Jarvis. If we didn't know you better, we'd think you were doing this deliberately.

  • Omar, Your rationalization is that of a man with a paper butt hole

We learned from Jawanza Malone of Kenwood Oakland Community Organization and the Obama Library CBA coalition about why CBA's are a growing movement in Chicago and around the country!

"We call on Alderman Moore to bring Target Corporation and Three Corners Development to the bargaining table to establish these community benefits for the Concord at Sheridan Development".

The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce spent a busy day last Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Northeastern Illinois University NEIU.

The Chamber participated in the College of Business and Management Career Fair. Chamber President Bill Morton and interns, Emilia Jamarillo and Trudy Leong, greeted and discussed Chamber internship business, social media, and legal opportunities with many of the 1,000 students majoring in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management and Business Administration.

After the Career Fair, Biil Morton and Trudy volunteered with the University Honors Program at the North Park Village Senior Apartments at 5801 N. Pulaski Rd. to help at the Apartments' annual Thanksgiving dinner for the residents.

UHP Director Dr. Jon Hageman sent out a last-minute call to UHP students for help and eloquently stated the need.

"Many of the residents are alone and have no family in the area (or at all)--the holidays are times when those residents are particularly alone, and even something small like a meal served by a smiling face lets them know they matter—it gives them a sense of worth and human dignity that is otherwise lacking, or in very short supply.

For me, it’s easy to see work and other things as overwhelming. Taking a couple of hours to serve others whose lives are in many ways much more difficult than mine helps me keep things in perspective. I have seen how a small amount of time on my part can make a big difference in the life of someone who otherwise feels abandoned. Ultimately, we all depend on help from others, and it’s important to repay that in some way."

Chamber President Bill Morton appreciates giving back and providing interns with a well-rounded internship experience, which includes Chamber volunteer work.

Mr. Morton looks forward to Chamber involvement in future university career fairs and supporting his interns' volunteer opportunities. Trudy is an NEIU student and enrolled in the University Honors Program.

  • Trudy Leong Student Trustee, Northeastern Illinois University

North Park Village Senior Apartments provided the food and asked the University Honors Program to serve the seniors. Volunteers having a meal with the residents help instill community presence with the residents. The UHP Director, the students, and Bill Morton were the only volunteers at the dinner.

North Park Village Senior Apartments wanted the UHP volunteers to help reduce the residents' sense of isolation from the community if no one else except the residents themselves attended the Thanksgiving meal.

Let's see if the media follows the story:
Carjacking and murder charges have been filed against a Wisconsin man who was in a stolen vehicle during a crash that killed his alleged accomplice Wednesday morning on the South Side.

Deangelo M. Williams, 21, was charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, one felony count of robbery armed with a firearm and two felony counts of murder while committing another forcible felony, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Williams and a 19-year-old man were wearing masks when they carjacked a male at gunpoint at 9:48 a.m. Wednesday as the victim was getting out of his vehicle in the 1000 block of West 61st Street, police said.

They drove off in the stolen vehicle with police pursuing them, police said. The stolen vehicle crashed less than 10 minutes later in the 4900 block of West Wentworth.

The 19-year-old man driving the stolen vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene...
Why do we point this out?
We were told in roll call in 007 that the surviving offender was charged with murder approved by the ASA only later the great office of Kim Foxxx denied the charges. Then the Chief of Detectives over turned them and charged him with murder again. You can only guess what's going to happen in court. Ridiculous.

This has nothing to do with affluence

  • This individual case does not have anything to do with affluence , or a converse lack of wealth., jurisprudence has been distorted by affluence for eons. Now, at the other end of the spectrum, we are being seeing a model of jurisprudence also being abridged by indigence.

I invite you to attend a community meeting to inform residents of an upcoming development of a four-story, eight-unit rental apartment building at 1717 W. Pratt (south side of Pratt at Hermitage, just west of the McDonald’s). The meeting will take place this Tuesday, November 28th, 7:00 p.m., at the Living Water Community Church, 6800 N. Ashland (at Pratt). The site currently is home to a vacant single family residence, which will be demolished to make way for the development. The development is allowed under the property’s current RT4 zoning designation. No zoning change, variance or special use permit is required. I asked the developers to present their plans to the community as a courtesy, given that the development will represent a significant change to the property in question. For more information on the development, visit: https://www.ward49.com/news/alderman-moore-to-host-informational-meeting-on-residential-development-at-pratt-and-hermitage/

As we enter the busiest shopping season of the year, I urge you to spend some time, and some dollars, shopping here in our neighborhood. And invite your friends to join you! We want all our local businesses to thrive–as the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats. Vacant storefronts, on the other hand, have quite a different effect on our community. As we continue striving to make Rogers Park more sustainable, we need to build a retail environment where most of our needs are met locally. The more our existing businesses succeed, the better our odds of attracting additional quality shops and services. Our neighborhood’s business champion, the Rogers Park Business Alliance (RPBA), is offering a Holiday Shoppers Rebate. Collect $100 or more in receipts from at least four different INDEPENDENTLY-OWNED businesses in Rogers Park now through Sunday, December 31st, and receive a $25 rebate. Collect $150 or more and receive a $50 rebate. That’s a good deal for you, the people on your gift list and, especially, Rogers Park!. For detailed information on the program and how to receive your rebate, visit: https://rpba.org/live-love-shop/ Start collecting your receipts this Saturday, November 25th, and celebrate “Small Business Saturday!” RPBA is marking the day with their third annual “Welcome Station and Selfie Event.” Begin the day with a visit to RPBA’s Welcome Station at Smack Dab Bakery, 6730 N. Clark. Stop by this Saturday anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon and enjoy a free coffee and doughnut. You’ll get a free tote bag filled with goodies (first 100 visitors) and a list of 21 participating businesses who will be offering specials and discounts all day. While shopping at the participating stores, take a selfie at each business you visit and share it on social media with the hashtags: #shopsmallropa, #shopsmall and #loverogerspark. The person who posts the most selfies will win a gift card to a Rogers Park business. So shop small and post big! Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce will partner with the Midwest Workers Association to fight against poverty in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

On Wednesday November 8th, Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce President, Bill Morton, traveled to the Back of the Yards neighborhood to meet with the Midwest Workers Association at their headquarters to find a solution to poverty in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

The Midwest Workers Association is a free and voluntary unincorporated membership association which services workers, temporary workers and other low-paid workers and their families. The organization’s mission is to alleviate our member’s most important-poverty- at the root.

“We will participate with the Midwest Workers Association at future Illinois Commerce Commission meetings to fight for keeping utilities affordable for residences because nobody should live without heat in the winter time” said Bill Morton, president of the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce.

The actions that Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce will take to support Midwest Workers Association are distributing the Association’s postcards, inviting them to speaking engagements in Rogers Park, and offering outreach table opportunities at our local stores.

    Stay classy.

There is a history of ineffective protest and amateur street theater that has repeatedly tried to save a crumbling and vermin-infested movie house, a decaying former health clinic that local Buddhists dumped for profit before moving to another neighborhood and, most recently, an old building that was beyond repair or renovation without running into the red. In none of those cases did the protester offer up one red cent for restoration or preservation. No money where the mouth was. Gassman properties in Rogers Park have positive cash flow and pay the bills. Gassman's never been evicted, forced to move or foreclosed unlike some other operations bearing the Rogers Park name.
