Who were the intended targets.

Our neighborhood has seen the pattern before. Innocent people get shot.
The intended targets sing show tunes and taunt on utube.
More unrelated shootings follow.
No arrest.
Eventually intended target is hit.
Repeat.

MA; Locking up those who illegally traffic in weapons is a very significant part of the same equation which Bertha is describing. In strong conjunction, those who legally own firearms for their own use and protection who allow them to illegally fall into the hands of others by failing to safely store those weapons should be held just st a culpable. Gun ownership is a privilege Those who accept the tacit responsibilities of that privilege should be held accountable.

  • I agree gangs are a deep deep problem
Some have suggested adding job training and education. Those programs already exist. The gangbangers know that but dont want to work for 12 an.hour when they can make ten times that much. I get tired of hearing neighnorhoods whed jobs when not that many of us work in our own neighborhoods. There are options out there. .job training, community college, the military, after school programs. I all for parenting classes and IDK.what else?

    Nope. It won't happen.

*The US code dictates that all aliens must report to Customs Enforcement their exact location. When you come legally to the US from another country, to visit friends, tourism, etc, you are required to disclose where are you going and give an address. Same with green card holders, same with refugees. Oh? You think that's a registration? Do you think this is something that was just enacted this year, or has it been like that for many decades? Any thoughts?

Illegal guns are killing innocent people

Cynthia Trevillion, 64, a teacher at Waldorf School in Chicago, was shot in the head and fatally wounded in the 6900 block of North Glenwood Avenue near the Morse Red Line station on Oct. 13, 2017, in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Illegal guns are killing innocent people
This is a tale of two teachers, one who taught in a high-achieving public school on Chicago's South Side and the other in a private school on the North Side. Both were unintended victims of Chicago's escalating gun violence, in neighborhoods some 20 miles apart.

Community Rally After Teacher's Murder Cut Short After Infighting
CHICAGO (CBS) - Arguments over the appropriate response to the fatal shooting of a teacher over the weekend derailed a community rally Monday night in Rogers Park. • @RobinM - hanging out in front of convenience stores occurs mostly in the black neighborhoods. I don't see it in the predominantly white neighborhoods like Rogers Park.

  • This is ridiculous to say positive loitering is racist. I am Hispanic and have never felt I couldn't attend one of these. If you want to get off of your lazy butt, then attend. No one is stopping you. I think the solution is to stop the loitering on Howard and Morse especially at the CTA stops.

If the Dunkin Donuts is that infested with drug deals, let's rent out that space. Turn it into a police sub station. Or a community check in.

OR

Let's put the funds towards LIGHTING Glenwood. And putting up more cameras.

Just a few ideas that would mean a lot more than some piece of art on the beach.

Violence has always been an issue in Rogers Park for as long as I can remember. It has improved in the last 10 years, but Morse Avenue needs help, it really does. It needs viable businesses that people can frequent and meanwhile not have to fear for your life. Morse Avenue needs to be revitalized in ways that parts of Andersonville and Edgewater have been in recent years. With gang bangers loitering, intimidating people, driving by, shooting each other and in this case passersby, businesses are not going to bother setting up shop on Morse Avenue. Further, people need to report crime and not just walk by the BS and say nothing. People also need to stop buying political BS from those who have allowed slumlords to rule in Rogers Park for so long. That too contributes to the issues in the community. The lack of jobs and real opportunities for youth is yet another contributor. Absent parents and poor school systems. The list goes on and on. There are many reasons for the gang violence in Rogers Park and the reasons don't include block groups trying to make their neighborhoods safe.

As mentioned at a community rally tonight (designed to bring people together), WE the people need to rise up and develop shared strategies to combat the violence and offer solutions and assistance to our youth. Standing up at a rally and blaming others is never going to solve the problem people. You are smart enough to realize that, I'm sure of it! What I witnessed tonight is sad! I hope this community learns from the mistakes of the past and it can come together to solve the gang violence and the problems it creates in Rogers Park. Community block groups have worked to clean up certain areas of this community. That's a fact! Why blame them people? I understand people are pissed about Trump and the economic and political climate, but to blame block groups is ridiculous. There has to be a better way to channel your frustration and anger. Just sayin...

Stray Bullets Kill Beloved Middle School Math Teacher Walking With Husband

Trevillion, of the 6800 block of North Greenview Avenue, and her husband found themselves caught in the crosshairs of a drive-by shooting around 6:30 p.m. Friday night while walking in front of Rogers Park Social bar in the 6900 block of North Glenwood Avenue, according to police and witnesses.

Ald. Joe Moore (49th) told residents in an email Saturday morning that just prior to the shooting, police told him there were two minors talking to someone in a stopped car at the corner of Glenwood and Morse when a dark SUV drove by and opened fire on the boys.

Just 30 minutes before Trevillion's death, a 15-year-old boy was also shot in the 7100 block of North Ridge Avenue, police said. Police originally said the boy was 13 and shot in the 2100 block of West Touhy Avenue.

Just 30 minutes before Trevillion's death, a 15-year-old boy was also shot in the 7100 block of North Ridge Avenue, police said. Police originally said the boy was 13 and shot in the 2100 block of West Touhy Avenue.

Her coworkers, along with the owners of Rogers Park Social, are holding a memorial in her honor at 8 p.m. Saturday at the 6920 N. Glenwood Ave. bar.

Moore acknowledged that "since late this summer, our neighborhood has experienced an uptick in gun violence," and said additional gang crime teams have now been called to patrol the Morse and Ridge/Touhy areas in the wake of the recent shootings.

What an absolute shame. This poor woman and her family. Out for a nice evening and killed by gangbanger scum. Rogers Park is a very dangerous neighborhood filled with gangbangers. Hopefully developers will buy up all of the multi unit buildings and level them, replacing them with single family homes these gangbangers families cannot afford.

  • The Gangers usually live with their moms and girlfriends because they won't pass the credit test to rent houses. Every slum landlord and CHA housing unit should be interviewed and inspected in the general area. I doubt the gangers came all the way from the south side to shoot somebody on the north side.

Did anyone see anything?

Sunday morning (10/15) around 5am I thought I heard something that sounded like a car accident. Got up and looked out my windows but couldn't see anything and didn't feel like going outside at that hour. Later that morning I got a call from someone in my building who told me that my he saw my car had been hit... as had 3 other neighbors (two of them other people in my building).

The four cars were parked on Pratt facing westbound across from Newgard, around 1434 Pratt. I'm asking if maybe someone - anyone - saw anything, got a description, license plate, something? Coz, of course, there was no note...

  • It is easy to not bother to call 911 either because you think its not a big deal or you think.someone else already did but I feel its better to call then to be sorry you didn't. Be anonymous if you prefer

  • Stepping into the conversation....RP needs to start installing more surveillance cameras on the commercial strips and apartment buildings.
