Joe Moore and the Participatory Budget

Dear Alderman Moore,

In light of the tragic events in our neighborhood, any chance we can submit new ideas for the Participatory budget?

I for one would like to recommend the following:

Putting the full amount of the fund behind closing the "shooting window." Let's pay our officers a half hour of transition time extra, so that there is no gap in police force on our streets.

OR

Dear Alderman Moore,

I for one would like to recommend the following:

Putting the full amount of the fund behind closing the "shooting window." Let's pay our officers a half hour of transition time extra, so that there is no gap in police force on our streets.

OR

If the Dunkin Donuts is that infested with drug deals, let's rent out that space. Turn it into a police sub station. Or a community check in.

OR

Let's put the funds towards LIGHTING Glenwood. And putting up more cameras.

Just a few ideas that would mean a lot more than some piece of art on the beach.

  • Wazzup not available

@littleton-nothing but priorities are safety first -working for a living second -and then you can afford to enjoy art. Right now lack of safety is costing lives -that puts art on a bench a long way from being priority justified. A new approach to achieving safety for residents is needed.

Wazzy, then I suggest that you talk to your own alderman because I'll bet Osterman has signed on to the Mayor's art initiative too.

Illegal guns are killing innocent people

Cynthia Trevillion, 64, a teacher at Waldorf School in Chicago, was shot in the head and fatally wounded in the 6900 block of North Glenwood Avenue near the Morse Red Line station on Oct. 13, 2017, in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Illegal guns are killing innocent people
This is a tale of two teachers, one who taught in a high-achieving public school on Chicago's South Side and the other in a private school on the North Side. Both were unintended victims of Chicago's escalating gun violence, in neighborhoods some 20 miles apart.

The gangs are to blame. You are either for or against the gangs.
I drew a line. I am against the gangs.

The U.S. Supreme Court rarely overturns a previous decision, but it is always possible. The anti-abortion crowd hopes that Roe v. Wade will be overturned. Similarly, I await the day that the court decisions affirming the right to own firearms without being part of a well-regulated militia will be overturned. Perhaps it will never happen, but perhaps it will. 5 to 4 can always become 4 to 5.

Seriously Rogers Park?

Violence has always been an issue in Rogers Park for as long as I can remember. It has improved in the last 10 years, but Morse Avenue needs help, it really does. Violence has always been an issue in Rogers Park for as long as I can remember. It has improved in the last 10 years, but Morse Avenue needs help, it really does. It needs viable businesses that people can frequent and meanwhile not have to fear for your life. Morse Avenue needs to be revitalized in ways that parts of Andersonville and Edgewater have been in recent years. With gang bangers loitering, intimidating people, driving by, shooting each other and in this case passersby, businesses are not going to bother setting up shop on Morse Avenue. Further, people need to report crime and not just walk by the BS and say nothing. People also need to stop buying political BS from those who have allowed slumlords to rule in Rogers Park for so long. That too contributes to the issues in the community. The lack of jobs and real opportunities for youth is yet another contributor. Absent parents and poor school systems. The list goes on and on. There are many reasons for the gang violence in Rogers Park and the reasons don't include block groups trying to make their neighborhoods safe.

As mentioned at a community rally tonight (designed to bring people together), WE the people need to rise up and develop shared strategies to combat the violence and offer solutions and assistance to our youth. Standing up at a rally and blaming others is never going to solve the problem people. You are smart enough to realize that, I'm sure of it! What I witnessed tonight is sad! I hope this community learns from the mistakes of the past and it can come together to solve the gang violence and the problems it creates in Rogers Park. Community block groups have worked to clean up certain areas of this community. That's a fact! Why blame them people? I understand people are pissed about Trump and the economic and political climate, but to blame block groups is ridiculous. There has to be a better way to channel your frustration and anger. Just sayin...

  • Michael Archangel Donald Trump - A compulsive liar.

@Bruce_ - Can you expla in the post above? It seems to be an unfinished thought.

"Hello, my name is Bill Morton. I'm President of the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce. I'd like to thank everyone for giving us all the opportunity to speak today.

It's our job to represent the businesses, residents, organizations and institutions of our community of Rogers Park, and it is our job to stimulate our local economy, and this tax goes directly against our Mission Statement and our vision.

We love our community and there a couple of points that I have to make.

We are here today to call on Cook County commissioners to repeal the county's excessive and unfair beverage tax, for almost a year now.

Many of us have warned that residents would experience sticker shock if the beverage tax went into place.

We also said that more than 6,100 jobs and $1.3 billion in economic activities would be at risk, and consumer flight from the county to Indiana and the collar counties would be a real possibility.

Based on the reports in the news, from cashiers at the check-out counter, and at our local diner, Cook County residents aren't just suffering sticker shock, they're expressing complete outrage over it. Outrage from a tax that adds as much as 67% to nearly 1,100 individual beverages.

We're talking juices... flavored waters... iced teas... energy drinks... pop... and even diet drinks"

You can see in these ads that Indiana and collar county grocery stores have already started advertising to steal our residents.

This is money that we can have for our businesses. This is not only affecting the small business owners, but their employees, and their employees opportunity to feed their families... pay the rent, and I said last time that I was here to Madame President, that if this tax causes these employees to not be able to pay their rent, we will have some bigger issues to deal with.

    Thank you very much".

Event rental space in north side?

I'm looking for a good spot to host our upcoming baby shower in July. I've looked at all the park district meeting rooms and browsed online for event rental spaces as well but can't seem to find one with the perfect combo of bringing in our own food/dessert and accommodate 40-50 people. Any ideas on places in the north side we can look at?

Who were the intended targets.

Our neighborhood has seen the pattern before. Innocent people get shot.
The intended targets sing show tunes and taunt on utube.
More unrelated shootings follow.
No arrest.
Eventually intended target is hit.
Repeat.

  • I agree gangs are a deep deep problem
Some have suggested adding job training and education. Those programs already exist. The gangbangers know that but dont want to work for 12 an.hour when they can make ten times that much. I get tired of hearing neighnorhoods whed jobs when not that many of us work in our own neighborhoods. There are options out there. .job training, community college, the military, after school programs. I all for parenting classes and IDK.what else?
