Neighborhood guide: What to eat, drink and do in Rogers Park
Rogers Park is both Chicago's northernmost point and one of its most diverse neighborhoods. The lakefront community extends from Devon Avenue to Howard Street and features both historic homes and a collection of vibrant murals.

"Michael Archangel", I'm proud to be a part of building our community. I'm thankful for so many opportunities to engage our residents, businesses and organizations.

It's just a fact, "There are many works around the neighborhood that we support, that you probably do not know we had a role in making happen. This is not uncommon."

The results are far more rewarding than the acknowledgement.

"Completing her degree at Indiana University, Hardy moved to Chicago and studied at The Second City, completing their beginner, conservatory and acting programs. Currently, she shares her love of improvisational comedy by teaching both children and adults. Her dream was to always make a feature film, but as she said, “...I didn’t go to school for it so I felt like I shouldn’t.” However, after a death in her family, she knew she had to embrace her time and do what she really wanted. Her first feature film, so aptly timed to today’s conversation about sexual harassment in the film industry, was Off the Cuff, a mockumentary about sexism in the Chicago improv scene. Learning from this filmmaking endeavor, Hardy went on to make two more feature films with her husband Brent Kado under the auspices of their production company Flowfeel Films.

Now in its seventh year, the CCFF had a few obstacles in its path as Hardy met with some resistance being told that she should follow in the footsteps of a long-standing male director and not do things her own way. She confided, “I felt that we were being compared to things...and maybe we weren’t given a lot of credit in the beginning.” She continued, “[Now] we’ve built something really great and I think we’ve shown that we have great voices...”

It was a good experience to attend the 7th Chicago Comedy Film Festival. I had the opportunity to meet Jessica Hardy, Brent Kado, and Jill Olson, who are the ones that set up this event. They were very welcoming, and assisted anyone who had doubts regarding the schedule of the screening.

Every year hundreds of filmmakers, agents, producers and industry players from Chicago, New York and LA join the Chicago Comedy Film Festival.

I attended the Q&A with the directors of the short comedy film "With Great Purpose." On the Q&A they shared some of their experiences doing this film, and what inspired them to create this film

Later I went with Bill Morton, president of the chamber, to a meet and greet with the movie makers where the red carpet was sponsored by Lagunitas. It was fun to be there and be able to talk to some of them.

Gunshots and more gunshots...

Just now (3am Sat) we heard a series of about 10 shots east of Clark and Devon. Tuesday night we heard shots coming from the same direction but a bit further away. Anyone else hear this and did anyone hear anything about the Tuesday incident?

No more DNA info.

    November 2, 2017
A lot of what I believed would happen did, but not all of it. Today, DNAinfo and Gothamist deliver news and information each day to over half a million people's email inboxes; we have over 2 million fans across our social channels; and each month, we have over 15 million visits to our sites by over 9 million people.
    https://www.dnainfo.com
  • I suppose it will be relatively quiet for a while, since the DNAInfo/Gothamist employees will be paid for the next three months (unless they get another full-time job), but I hope there are already discussions going on in the background for those local news organizations to be acquired up by a more "professional" company - one not scared by unionized employees. I don't personally think profit was ever a significant part of Joe Rickets' goals for DNAInfo/Gothamist.

Gang Conflict in Rogers Park Killed Popular Teacher: Ald.

At the intersection of Morse and Glenwood, where Cynthia Trevillion was shot, flowers and notes mark a make-shift memorial.

Gang Conflict in Rogers Park Killed Popular Teacher: Ald.
It would be easy to say Friday night Oct. 13 was unlucky for Cynthia Trevillion. The realty is the tragic event that occurred that night impacted so many more people and highlights an often-overlooked aspect of Chicago's gang violence: it is not just the south and west sides that feel the painful sting of violence.

Will Binny's be a short drive away?

Some of us, especially those on the north end of RP, have been missing Evanston's Whole Foods South store since it closed in March. Binny's is interested in the site. Wonder what the neighbors up there will think of that.

https://patch.com/illinois/evanston/binnys-proposed-former-whole-foods-site?utm_source=newsletter-daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=business&utm_campaign=newsletter&utm_content=article-topstories&utm_slot=1

Binny's Proposed For Former Whole Foods Site
EVANSTON, IL - A libational replacement for the shuttered Whole Foods store at 1111 Chicago Ave. in Evanston is being considered, as Binny's Beverage Depot is interested in moving into the site. A community meeting has been scheduled by 3rd Ward Alderman Melissa Wynne for next week to discuss the plans.

Brad and Soter, it's pretty clear from the article in Patch as well as one in Evanston Now, that Binnys is interested in the site so I'm unclear why you would question their interest. The only strings attached seem to be possible objections from the neighbors. There's no way I would drive to Lincolnwood to buy a few bottles of wine or beer, but a Binny's a mile north of me would be great.

Sandy, yes a CTA bus, #205, runs south on Chicago Ave. from Church St. to the Howard terminal and north from the terminal to Davis.

Since Mr. Binstein himself turned up for Ald. Wynne's community meeting on Wednesday night, I think it safe to say that Binny's is seriously interested in this site. No surprise, the local liquor dealers, including Vinic, object to the competition.
