Violence has always been an issue in Rogers Park for as long as I can remember. It has improved in the last 10 years, but Morse Avenue needs help, it really does. It needs viable businesses that people can frequent and meanwhile not have to fear for your life. Morse Avenue needs to be revitalized in ways that parts of Andersonville and Edgewater have been in recent years. With gang bangers loitering, intimidating people, driving by, shooting each other and in this case passersby, businesses are not going to bother setting up shop on Morse Avenue. Further, people need to report crime and not just walk by the BS and say nothing. People also need to stop buying political BS from those who have allowed slumlords to rule in Rogers Park for so long. That too contributes to the issues in the community. The lack of jobs and real opportunities for youth is yet another contributor. Absent parents and poor school systems. The list goes on and on. There are many reasons for the gang violence in Rogers Park and the reasons don't include block groups trying to make their neighborhoods safe.

As mentioned at a community rally tonight (designed to bring people together), WE the people need to rise up and develop shared strategies to combat the violence and offer solutions and assistance to our youth. Standing up at a rally and blaming others is never going to solve the problem people. You are smart enough to realize that, I'm sure of it! What I witnessed tonight is sad! I hope this community learns from the mistakes of the past and it can come together to solve the gang violence and the problems it creates in Rogers Park. Community block groups have worked to clean up certain areas of this community. That's a fact! Why blame them people? I understand people are pissed about Trump and the economic and political climate, but to blame block groups is ridiculous. There has to be a better way to channel your frustration and anger. Just sayin...

  • Hunting knives can also be used to skin/gut/scale or otherwise process animals caught by fishing or hunting. Some people use them to whittle wood for various purposes such as making a stake or a stick for your S'mores marshmallows. Derp.

  • If you are hunting critters with a hunting knife, you're kind of going about it all wrong. Unless you're a really stabby guy.

Is it too soon to gloat? Nah. Crack open that can of soda with gusto, taxpayers. You won. Relentless public pressure appears to have doomed the Cook County soda tax. The County Board Finance Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday. As of Friday, 12 of the 17 commissioners had signed on to repeal it.

Who were the intended targets.

Our neighborhood has seen the pattern before. Innocent people get shot.
The intended targets sing show tunes and taunt on utube.
More unrelated shootings follow.
No arrest.
Eventually intended target is hit.
Repeat.

Yes Bruce, one human was intentionally stabbed by another. Imagine that weapon was the much more commonplace gun. Might bystanders have been shot as well in that scenario? You have helped prove my point.

Did anyone see anything?

Sunday morning (10/15) around 5am I thought I heard something that sounded like a car accident. Got up and looked out my windows but couldn't see anything and didn't feel like going outside at that hour. Later that morning I got a call from someone in my building who told me that my he saw my car had been hit... as had 3 other neighbors (two of them other people in my building).

The four cars were parked on Pratt facing westbound across from Newgard, around 1434 Pratt. I'm asking if maybe someone - anyone - saw anything, got a description, license plate, something? Coz, of course, there was no note...

  • yeah let's spend six billion dollars to solve a one-million-dollar problem....

  • Barbara..did you call the police when you heard the noise?

Tonight Again I had to call in a noise complaint. An hour later after NO response and a growing party I had to call it in again. The party was broken up.
But and hour later, they were back out and partying even harder than before.
Another call. Another police visit.

This building is out of control. What can be done? Obviously they have little regard for the police, and have NO regard for their neighbors.

And contact the building owner. Let them know you are documenting and calling police and Loyola. Also, do not wait until 1 am to call police. The Chicago noise ordinance says 10 pm-8 am is quiet time. Hang in there. I have been through this.
