While not disclosing Spruce’s name, the unsealed warrant contained other clues to his identity: both his current apartment number at the Ashland address as well as his previous address in the 1900 block of West Fargo Avenue. Public records listed both addresses for him.

Change-of-address scam moved UPS corporate headquarters to tiny Rogers Park apartment, feds say
The timeworn apartment building in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood hardly looks like the corporate headquarters of one of the world's largest shipping companies. But for a few recent months, that's essentially what it became - at least as far as the U.S. Postal Service was concerned.

Do you want to feel good again about democrac...

Do you want to feel good again about democracy and voting? Each year, I receive over $1 million from the City's "Aldermanic Menu" Program to spend at my discretion on infrastructure improvements in the ward. Rather than me deciding how to spend the money, I turn the decision-making power over to the residents of my ward through a process known as “participatory budgeting.” Community volunteers come up with proposed project ideas and the entire ward votes on the proposals they would most like to see implemented. I agree to abide by the results of the vote. The process for determining how to spend next year’s budget begins NOW. Over the next two weeks, I will host six “Neighborhood Assemblies” (five in English and one in Spanish) throughout the 49th Ward where people learn about Participatory Budgeting and begin to brainstorm ideas on projects they would like to see in the ward. The first assembly takes place TONIGHT (Monday, April 23rd), 7:00 p.m., at Sullivan High School, 6631 N. Bosworth (between North Shore and Albion). Come early before the meeting at 6:30 p.m. and join us for free pizza, courtesy of J.B. Alberto's. https://www.ward49.com/news/decide-how-to-spend-1-million-of-your-money-participatory-budgeting-begins-tonight/

Moving to the neighborhood -- Community Groups?

Hi there,

Moving to Rogers Park next month from downtown. Do any specific community action groups come to mind, that a newcomer should join to start becoming involved?

No particular cause/topic in mind right now--just looking to become a contributing member of the community.

Thanks!!

Coffee and breakfast sweets will be provided before and after the walk, and stick around to discuss birds and birding with Dave.

Presented by the Indian Boundary Park Advisory Council, the Spring Bird Walk is free of charge, and as usual, donations of any amount will be warmly received.

The next round of participatory budgeting is ...

The next round of participatory budgeting is about to begin! This is when you and your neighbors decide how to spend over $1 million in improvements for the 49th Ward. Each year, I receive over $1 million from the City’s “Aldermanic Menu” program to spend at my discretion on infrastructure improvements in the ward. Nine years ago, I implemented a “participatory budgeting” process in which the residents of my ward decide directly through popular vote how those tax dollars are spent. Since then, scores of cities across the nation have emulated our process and just recently Participatory Budgeting became the subject of a PBS documentary. The process for determining how to spend next year’s budget begins NOW. Over the next two weeks, I will host six “Neighborhood Assemblies” (five in English and one in Spanish) throughout the 49th Ward. The first assembly takes place Monday, April 23rd, 7:00 p.m. (complimentary pizza served at 6:30 p.m.) at Sullivan High School, 6631 N. Bosworth (enter through the door in the middle of the block). If you can’t make this assembly, there are five more to choose from. For more information, including a list of all the Participatory Budgeting Neighborhood Assemblies, visit: https://www.ward49.com/news/decide-how-to-spend-1-million-to-improve-the-neighborhood-participatory-budgeting-begins-next-week/
