Crime near Juneway Terrace

Hi potential neighbors!

I’m interested in purchasing a home 🏠 between Jonquil and Juneway ( around the 1500 blk ) and was wondering if you could give me some true neighborly feedback on what the neighborhood is really like vs what the Realetor is saying ... Thru my own research it appears 400 plus crimes are listed in the last six months ! YIKES!!
I’ve lived in Chicago neighhoods all my life but always in apt complexes ( l know things happen I’m wondering is this a safe move for my family and I?
Would appreciate any info I can gather before making this big decision. Thanks kindly ,

  • Chicago Waldorf School reviewed

I went here my entire life though 8th grade and honestly don't recommend it. Firstly, Waldorf teaches you to live in a bubble from the outside world and act like it's still the 1800's. Secondly, they give students no freedom to grow as individuals because you are taught to conform to Waldorf's uniform expectations; having to do your art in the exact same way, have the same weird anti-technology beliefs (honestly, we weren't allowed to talk about movies in elementary school!!), LEARN in the same way... And thirdly, connecting to the whole "learn the same way" aspect, I have learning differences and Waldorf in no way supported that. I got little academic help and teachers had no understanding of what I was going through. I spent my entire childhood thinking that something was wrong with me because no one cared to address and figure out what was up with my academic struggles. It is simply a very sheltered, every-one-has-to-be-the same environment and I am a million times more happy at my current, more progressive school.

Grace Owner Set To Open New Restaurant Near Loyola
The Loyola community will soon welcome a restaurant owned by Loyola alumnus Michael Olszewski, who owned recently-closed restaurant Grace. Olszewski plans to open Onward, a casual, fine-dining restaurant, beneath the Hampton Inn Chicago North-Loyola Station on North Sheridan Road. This comes after the sudden closing of the high-end downtown Grace.
  • Glad to hear the significant contingent of Loyola students who are from millionaire families will finally have a decent place to eat!

Loyola Redline Mugging This Weekend

I'm not seeing it in the news yet but apparently a young man was mugged Saturday night and has now died from the head trauma he sustained. A friend of his posted this on facebook. "He was found early Saturday morning at the Loyola station in Chicago. He was laying at the bottom of the stairs with his wallet missing and with serious head trauma."
This is all the info I have and just wanted my neighbors to be aware.

It seems beyond unethical, but yea... someone would have to sign a complaint. It's frustrating, heartbreaking this particular case.

No street lights on Juneway this week

Was reported many nights ago... When will this be fixed?

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

My service request for the lights out on Juneway is still open.

  • d3 NOH

The problem with the city's system is they close out duplicate requests as being fixed but don't corelate the requests back so you can track the original as a master request. You're then left wondering why the city doesn't do their job...

Free Council for Exceptional Children publications

I have several publications from the Council for Exceptional Children that are free for pick-up. If you message me I can provide a detailed list of them all. Even though the articles are written with Special Needs students in mind they are also applicable to other students and would be a welcome addition to any school library. They are in excellent condition and need a new home.

Safety in Rogers Park

Hey all,

I'm a female in my 20s looking to move to Rogers Park in the spring and wanted to hear what you have to say about the safety of the neighborhood. It seems like there's been a lot of gun violence reported...has this always been an issue? Are there certain areas that are better than others? Are there any programs in the neighborhood to increase safety? Thanks for any advice!

  • Hi Robin, thanks for the tip! I didn't know lyft offered discounts. I've made my decision :)

I have lived in RP for 10 years now. I'm originally from Hyde Park on the South side. I love the diversity here. I love the BLM signs that people put in their windows and yards and the no hate signs.
