A 40-year-old man was shot and killed in the 5500 block of South Shields at approximately 6:13 p.m., police said. The man was walking in the street when a passenger in a black or grey SUV fired five to six shots, striking the victim once in the head.

In another shooting just after midnight, five people were standing outside of a building in the 100 block of East 51st Street when a grey vehicle pulled up and an occupant opened fire.

Just before 12:30 a.m., a 34-year-old man was driving eastbound in the 3600 block of West Diversey when a person in a Jeep Liberty fired shots at him, striking him in the left arm. He was taken to Illinois Masonic in stable condition, police said.

A 28-year-old man was walking in the 10200 block of South State Street at approximately 12:38 a.m. when two vehicles drove by, with occupants shooting at one another. The man was struck in the crossfire, and was taken to Roseland in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his right leg.

In the 4900 block of West Chicago at approximately 2:15 a.m., a 29-year-old man was taken to Norwegian Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his left arm. The victim refused to cooperate, police said.

A 27-year-old woman was standing on a sidewalk in the 4900 block of West Monroe when she got into an argument with a man. The man then pulled out a gun and fired shots at her, striking her in the right ankle. She was taken to Loretto in stable condition, police said.

In the 6700 block of South Sangamon at approximately 2:49 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was standing outside when a person in a vehicle fired shots at him, striking him in the buttocks. The boy was taken to UIC Hospital in stable condition, police said.

In the homicide, a 40-year-old man was shot in the head in the 5500 block of South Shields Avenue about 6:15 p.m., Chicago police said.

Police earlier listed the address of the attack as the 5700 block of South Shields.

Another Englewood shooting happened in the 6700 block of South Sangamon Street.

What the heck just happened on Columbia just west of Sheridan?

We heard screaming in the alley between Columbia and North Shore. Saw no one outside. Called police immediately.

Man charged with punching 67-year-old woman on Red Line

He is charged with approaching a 67-year-old woman shortly after midnight Thursday while riding the Red Line train in the 1500 block of Jarvis Avenue and punching her in the face with his fist, causing “serious trauma” to one of her eyes, police said.

On Friday, McMath went into a retail store in the 2000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and ran out with a pair of shoes he hadn’t paid for, police said. Police said they arrested him about 2:45 p.m.

    I still say the CTA, the city however it has to be done they get some real security on the transit system.

    People are leaving the city, this is only one reason. A lot of people with good paying jobs have no desire to own a car, if the transit system frightens them it's a big incentive to think about moving out.

    For some it's time to buy a car meaning less revenue for transit, more congestion for roads.

    It seems like a no-brainer...?
