Who were the intended targets.

Our neighborhood has seen the pattern before. Innocent people get shot.
The intended targets sing show tunes and taunt on utube.
More unrelated shootings follow.
No arrest.
Eventually intended target is hit.
Repeat.

  • The only solution is to lock up for as long as possible anyone convicted of possessing an illegal gun or using a gun to commit a crime. By the time a kid is ten years old it is too late for rehab. Incarceration is the answer...sad to say but true.

Violence has always been an issue in Rogers Park for as long as I can remember. It has improved in the last 10 years, but Morse Avenue needs help, it really does. It needs viable businesses that people can frequent and meanwhile not have to fear for your life. Morse Avenue needs to be revitalized in ways that parts of Andersonville and Edgewater have been in recent years. With gang bangers loitering, intimidating people, driving by, shooting each other and in this case passersby, businesses are not going to bother setting up shop on Morse Avenue. Further, people need to report crime and not just walk by the BS and say nothing. People also need to stop buying political BS from those who have allowed slumlords to rule in Rogers Park for so long. That too contributes to the issues in the community. The lack of jobs and real opportunities for youth is yet another contributor. Absent parents and poor school systems. The list goes on and on. There are many reasons for the gang violence in Rogers Park and the reasons don't include block groups trying to make their neighborhoods safe.

As mentioned at a community rally tonight (designed to bring people together), WE the people need to rise up and develop shared strategies to combat the violence and offer solutions and assistance to our youth. Standing up at a rally and blaming others is never going to solve the problem people. You are smart enough to realize that, I'm sure of it! What I witnessed tonight is sad! I hope this community learns from the mistakes of the past and it can come together to solve the gang violence and the problems it creates in Rogers Park. Community block groups have worked to clean up certain areas of this community. That's a fact! Why blame them people? I understand people are pissed about Trump and the economic and political climate, but to blame block groups is ridiculous. There has to be a better way to channel your frustration and anger. Just sayin...

Joe Moore and the Participatory Budget

Dear Alderman Moore,

In light of the tragic events in our neighborhood, any chance we can submit new ideas for the Participatory budget?

I for one would like to recommend the following:

Putting the full amount of the fund behind closing the "shooting window." Let's pay our officers a half hour of transition time extra, so that there is no gap in police force on our streets.

OR

Let's put the funds towards LIGHTING Glenwood. And putting up more cameras.

Just a few ideas that would mean a lot more than some piece of art on the beach.

Did anyone see anything?

Sunday morning (10/15) around 5am I thought I heard something that sounded like a car accident. Got up and looked out my windows but couldn't see anything and didn't feel like going outside at that hour. Later that morning I got a call from someone in my building who told me that my he saw my car had been hit... as had 3 other neighbors (two of them other people in my building).

The four cars were parked on Pratt facing westbound across from Newgard, around 1434 Pratt. I'm asking if maybe someone - anyone - saw anything, got a description, license plate, something? Coz, of course, there was no note...

  • It is easy to not bother to call 911 either because you think its not a big deal or you think.someone else already did but I feel its better to call then to be sorry you didn't. Be anonymous if you prefer

  • Stepping into the conversation....RP needs to start installing more surveillance cameras on the commercial strips and apartment buildings.

But and hour later, they were back out and partying even harder than before.
Another call. Another police visit.

This building is out of control. What can be done? Obviously they have little regard for the police, and have NO regard for their neighbors.

Crime Scene Hoyne Between Birchwood and Howard

Walked home from CTA through a phalanx of CPD and the citizens who normally run the open air drug market in the parking lot behind the Public Storage at Hoyne and Howard. Heard complaints about bullet holes in cars, but no sign of EMT. Wondering if anybody in the n'hood heard anything about this. Hoping this particular enterprising gang finds a new distribution location. Nothing subtle about their presence all summer, so this event was just a matter of time. What is it about Howard and Hoyne so irresistible to the criminal element? Calls to CPD and Ward office and nothing changes.

  • @MA - graduates of Miss. Tidwinkle's Finishing School are aware that change cures all illegal activity and social and political ills. Unfortunately the Tidwinklers haven't a clue as to what that really means aside from having their servants open the windows, freshen the air and change the drapes.

Lincoln Towing Says 464 Complaints Over Two Years A 'Miniscule' Number
CHICAGO - Drivers lodged 464 complaints during the past 21 months against the notorious firm Lincoln Towing, almost all of them alleging illegal tows, according to data provided to DNAinfo by state officials.
    https://www.dnainfo.com
  • Now Wazzup, do you think if Lincoln towing operated on the up 'n up, there would be that many complaints against them?

Orange....I wish, in my fit of anger, it occured to me to sue. Of course the Walgreens employees questioned said Walgreens does not dictate Lincoln towing operating policy.

  • Walgreens does not dictate Lincoln Towing's policy but by signing a service contract with Lincoln Towing they accept, approve and own the policy. Lincoln Towing is a contractual agent of Walgreens. As such, Walgreens shares responsibility for unlawful towings. Walgreens employees would not know that so their standard response is that "we don't have anything to do with it".

Toni Taxwinkle Should be Impeached

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/kass/ct-soda-tax-kass-met-0914-20170913-column.html

When she was 4th Ward Alderman from 1991-2010, Alderman Joe Moore was politically aligned with Preckwinkle. I wonder what his perspective is on this assinine tax?

Hidden treasures in Toni Taxwinkle's idiotic pop tax
Taxpayers are rightfully angry about Toni Taxwinkle's costly and idiotic soda pop tax, though there are some hidden gems in it, too. But angry taxpayers jamming the county boardroom on Wednesday weren't looking for treasure. They were looking for vengeance on Taxwinkle for her ravenous penny-per-ounce soda pop tax.

I wonder why it is that Cook County doesn't seem to provide a breakdown on who it hires. I have to say, that murkiness alone gives your perspective some credence.

Chicago does a slightly better job, apparently, although Latino city employees are still far behind their share of the city's population. I don't know what the situation is like in 2017, but these are the stats from 2015:

"Of the more than 32,500 total city employees, nearly 46 percent are white, 31.8 percent are black, 18 percent are Hispanic and fewer than 3 percent are Asian American." (Compared to a city that is roughty 30% white, 30% Latino and 30% Black). https://chicago.suntimes.com/chicago-politics/the-watchdogs-whites-still-hold-most-top-city-jobs-under-rahm-emanuel/

In any case, it seems like just about every governmental office in the state has much better representation by whites (strongly overrepresented) and blacks (who achieve parity to their population in many Chicago--and likely Cook Cty--government offices), and Latinos are still pretty far behind as the "newcomers." But if you're going to blame Preckwinkle for low Latino hiring in Cook County, you have to blame every single other government entity in the state as well.

  • Gabriel Resident of PRRP

Omar, yes I do place blame on every single government entity and their leaders starting with Rauner, including Preckwinkle, and ending with 16Shots Rahm.

The underepresentation of LatinX groups has been ongoing and well known to LatinX policy advocates. Preckwinkle was a disappointment because people had hopes that she was cut from a different cloth. That turned out to be limited differences with Emanuel but not a reformer when it came to LatinX underrepresentation.

I congratulate you on your skepticism and suggestions for prople to do their "due diligence" about online postings by dog rescue groups. I'll help you, and the other neighbors, with due diligence about our rescue and our credentials. But I don't want to clutter up this website, because Boss is my priority right now and I want to hear from potential adopters, if you don't mind.

I have opened a discussion on Yelp in order to clear the good name of our rescue, and there is where you'll find the truth about the unfortunate incident involving the state of Wisconsin. Ill be asking people who know of our good works to also say a few words on Yelp.. You have no idea how destructive a post like yours can be: I can only hope and pray that any potential adopters for Boss aren't scared away by your thoughtlessness: this beautiful dog could be the real loser in all this, because absolutely no one has reached out to help him except us!

I urge you, and everyone reading this, to check out the discussion thread on Yelp for Paws Rescue Group, formerly of Edgerton, WI. @Tired of Liars - So, now you want to make a different argument? Initially you described "a rich tradition of being politically correct". I pointed out, through the lyrical example, that there was not political correctness attached to the existence of Lincoln Towing.

It seems that now you want to argue that there was collusion or, at least, a blind eye!

Get back to us when you have decided your actual position on the issue because, as usual, you make a claim, cannot defend it and then simply make another claim.

Where to post for Loyola students?

I’m currently looking for a nanny for my infant and thought given the hours (10-2:30) it may be a suitable side job for qualified Loyola students since we live walking distance from the campus(clark&albion) I’m wondering if there are other outlets besides every block that I can post on that Loyola students will see either online or on campus?

What's with "swings"?

I was on a walk in the neighborhood on a block just west of Ridge and I saw several houses on the same block with large signs on the lawns saying "We Support Swings". Then I saw what looked like a whole porch swing detached from its frame, in front of one of the houses, out by the curb. Like it was to be picked up by a trash collector.

Does anyone know anything about a neighborhood ban on porch or yard swings?

A couple of ambulances and fire trucks. Didn't see a lot of police, but I wasn't gonna hang around to see what it was.

New art gallery on Devon?

I was walking on Devon and passed by the Lavan Art Gallery. There was a young man painting the lower edge of the building near the sidewalk and I peeked in to look at the beautiful paintings. I asked him if it was open and he said "I am the owner and we are not open to the public". I then asked what the hours were and he said, "it is not open to the public and never will be". I then asked politely if the art was his private collection at which point he dismissed me by saying "have a nice day ma'm ".

Does anyone know what kind of business this is?

  • To clarify, @Spam Alert, the vibe I got from the guy was the same kind of crazy that you see from someone on the CTA bus who goes off shouting at a stranger for no reason. That person was probably having a terrible day and had reasons for feeling anger towards white people in general. But that does not excuse the behavior. If you ask me, it is a kind of mental illness to be unable to recognize another person's humanity due to their skin color.

Rogers Park Wins; Chicago Wins

A federal judge has ruled Attorney General Jeff Sessions cannot follow through with his threat to withhold public safety grant money to Chicago and other so-called sanctuary cities for refusing his order to impose tough immigration policies.

U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber on Friday granted Chicago's request for a temporary "nationwide" injunction. That means the Justice Department can't deny requests for the grant money until Chicago's lawsuit against the agency is concluded. He wrote that Chicago has shown a "likelihood of success" in its arguments that Sessions overstepped his authority with the requirements.

Judge: Grant money for sanctuary cities can't be denied
CHICAGO (AP) -- Attorney General Jeff Sessions can't follow through -- at least for now -- with his threat to withhold public safety grant money to Chicago and other so-called sanctuary cities for refusing to impose new tough immigration policies, a judge ruled Friday in a legal defeat for the Trump administration.

My comment, deleted without reason it was
In the end, what is wrong about deporting illegal immigrants?
What's wrong with deporting those who have no right to be here in the first place?

  • This is about Jefferson Beauregard's politically motivated attempt to withhold public safety grant money from Chicago and other cities across the country. This federal court decision has nothing to do with deportation. The federal judiciary had to tell the United States Attorney General to begin defending the Constitution and stop playing political games. Shameful, but once a political Alabama Senator cozies up with racists you can expect the Alabama United States Attorney General to get political and cozy up with racists.
