2018 to be another rough year for Chicago taxpayers
2017 was particularly hard on Chicago taxpayers, who were hit with a major state income tax hike, the latest in a series of property tax increases at City Hall and Chicago Public Schools, and a new city tax on water and sewer service.

  • You know this is really interesting.

Hosted by Rogers Park neighbors and members, Jane Addams Senior Caucus, ONE Northside, and Caroline Hedger Tenant Association with legal support from the Community Law Project, there was an impressive crowd of familiar faces in attendance.

Jane Addams Senior Caucus, ONE Northside, and Logan Square Neighborhood Association organized the teach-in about Community Benefit Agreements. We learned from Jawanza Malone of Kenwood Oakland Community Organization and the Obama Library CBA coalition about why CBA's are a growing movement in Chicago and around the country!

"We call on Alderman Moore to bring Target Corporation and Three Corners Development to the bargaining table to establish these community benefits for the Concord at Sheridan Development".

Venting

Speaking of parking issues in Rogers Park... an old gentleman across the street on North Shore has a designated handicap spot. When he returns from wherever, he parks in his spot. Then, as soon as an adjacent spot opens up he removes his placard from the window and moves his car there, taking up an extra space.

I fume every time I see this. What’s his deal? Does he just like an unobstructed view of the street? And, (yes, I know you can’t always tell), he doesn’t seem to have a disability.

It just apppears selfish and un-neighborly.

2 decent people. I had a temporary disability and was given a handicapped permit for 6 months. I was all healed up after 2 months and tossed the permit so I wouldn't be tempted to use it at, say, a crowded supermarket lot. My good friend has a mom in Edgewater who is 84 and uses a walker. He drives her everywhere but always drops her at the restaurant door then goes by himself to find legitimate street parking rather than taking up a handicapped space that another person may need. Though he does have her placard in his glovebox if legitimately needed.
It can be hard to always do the right thing rather than doing the easy thing, but it is so worth the clear conscience. More people should try it.
